Student - Graduate Coordinator for First Year Communities

The Graduate Coordinator for First Year Communities supports student wellbeing and success for first year students living in on-campus housing. This role includes direct student interaction to help support retention initiatives, encourage personal growth and well-being, and promote a sense of belonging at Butler. 

Duties: 

• Student Growth and Development – 20% 

o Support students navigating the life cycle of relationships and complex interpersonal dynamics, including participating in roommate mediations and working with students in challenging interpersonal situations 

• Community Building and Support – 20% 

o Coordinate and execute programming explicitly in support of First Year student success 

o Maintain regular contact with students in residence 

• Retention Efforts – 15% 

o Special population outreach 

o Dawg Discussion Follow Up 

o Collaboration with University partners, especially the SEE office and the Student Success Center 

o Direct student follow up during enrollment periods 

• Student Well Being – 15% 

o Conduct student check ins and meetings as directed 

o Follow up with students after distressing situations 

• Administration & Management – 10% 

o Maintain complete and accurate records regarding student and building concerns 

• On Call Duty Rotation – 10% 

o Respond via phone & in-person to various emergency and crisis situations 

o Collaborate with emergency personnel and campus resources to provide student support o Submit appropriate documentation to report concerns and actions taken 

o Support on-call student staff 

• Facilities Management – 10%

o Support all building related tasks including opening, closing, health & safety checks, and all needed maintenance activities 

o Work closely with American Campus Communities and Butler Facilities 

o Maintain accurate records regarding occupancy, room changes, facilities concerns, and damage billing for the unit 

• University and Division Responsibilities – 5% 

o Participate in and contribute to division and university meetings and events as directed 

• Other duties as assigned 

Required Minimum Qualifications: 

• Must be currently pursuing a graduate degree at an accredited institution of higher education 

• Bachelor’s degree required 

• Demonstrated interpersonal skills 

• Experience working with college students 

• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form 

• Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions 

• Ability to diffuse and respond effectively to situations involving intense pressures and/or unpredictable persons 

• Physical ability to climb stairs in order to reach the top floor of a residence hall in an emergency situation without assistance 

Position Compensation:

• $12,000 stipend per year, paid monthly over a 10 month appointment (August 1 - May 31) • This position is expected to work 20 hours per week. Hours may vary during peak periods. • Tuition assistance of $5,000 for a Butler graduate program
