The Graduate Coordinator for Returning Student Communities supports student wellbeing and success for sophomore and junior students living in on-campus housing. This role includes direct student interaction to help support retention initiatives, encourage personal growth and well-being, and promote a successful transition to whatever comes next.

Duties:Â
• Student Growth and Development – 30%Â
o Support students navigating the life cycle of relationships and complex interpersonal dynamics, including participating in roommate mediations and working with students in challenging interpersonal situationsÂ
o Coordinate and execute programming explicitly in support of sophomore and junior level studentsÂ
o Maintain regular contact with students in residenceÂ
Â
• Transition Preparation – 10%Â
o Coordinate an annual off-campus housing fairÂ
o Provide information relevant to students transitioning out of campus housingÂ
Â
• Retention Efforts – 15%Â
o Special population outreachÂ
o Dawg Discussion Follow UpÂ
o Direct student follow up during enrollment periodsÂ
Â
• Student Well Being – 15%Â
o Conduct student check ins and meetings as directedÂ
o Follow up with students after distressing situationsÂ
Â
• Administration & Management – 10%Â
o Maintain complete and accurate records regarding student and building concerns
Â
• On Call Duty Rotation – 10%Â
o Respond via phone & in-person to various emergency and crisis situationsÂ
o Collaborate with emergency personnel and campus resources to provide student support o Submit appropriate documentation to report concerns and actions takenÂ
o Support on-call student staffÂ
Â
• Facilities Management – 10%Â
o Support all building related tasks including opening, closing, health & safety checks, and all needed maintenance activitiesÂ
o Work closely with American Campus Communities and Butler FacilitiesÂ
o Maintain accurate records regarding occupancy, room changes, facilities concerns, and damage billing for the unitÂ
Â
• University and Division Responsibilities – 5%Â
o Participate in and contribute to division and university meetings and events as directedÂ
• Other duties as assignedÂ
Â
Required Minimum Qualifications:Â
• Must be currently pursuing a graduate degree at an accredited institution of higher educationÂ
• Bachelor’s degree requiredÂ
• Demonstrated interpersonal skillsÂ
• Experience working with college studentsÂ
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formÂ
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisionsÂ
• Ability to diffuse and respond effectively to situations involving intense pressures and/or unpredictable personsÂ
• Physical ability to climb stairs in order to reach the top floor of a residence hall in an emergency situation without assistanceÂ
Â
Position Compensation:
• $12,000 stipend per year, paid monthly over a 10 month appointment (August 1 - May 31) • This position is expected to work 20 hours per week. Hours may vary during peak periods. • Tuition assistance of $5,000 for a Butler graduate programÂ
