Job Description: Shop Hand
Position Summary
The Shop Hand / Shop Assistant is primarily responsible for managing and organizing vehiclesĀ
throughout the facility while supporting the Quality Control Specialist with inspections, qualityĀ
checks, issue identification, documentation, and corrective work.
The position also supports a clean, safe, and efficient shop through facility upkeep, inventory andĀ
equipment organization, and general operational assistance. The ideal candidate is dependable,Ā
organized, self-motivated, mechanically inclined, and takes ownership of their work whileĀ
supporting the broader team.
Work Schedule: MondayāFriday, 7:30 AM ā 4:00 PM
Pay Range - $17/hr. - $22/hr.
Primary Responsibilities
Vehicle Management (Primary Responsibility)
⢠Serve as the primary steward of vehicle organization, ensuring all vehicles are safely andĀ
efficiently managed throughout the facility.Ā
⢠Receive, check in, track, and maintain accurate records of vehicle status and location.Ā
⢠Move and reposition vehicles as needed to support production, quality control, delivery,Ā
and overall shop workflow.Ā
⢠Prepare vehicles for their next stage by ensuring they are properly positioned, secured,Ā
fueled or charged, and ready for use.Ā
⢠Identify and report vehicle damage, warning lights, mechanical concerns, or other issues,Ā
and communicate vehicle status updates to the appropriate team members.
Quality Control Support (Secondary Primary Responsibility)
⢠Serve as a key support resource to the Quality Control Specialist by assisting withĀ
inspections, final vehicle washes, and maintaining shop quality standards.Ā
⢠Prepare vehicles for inspection and perform basic visual and functional checks ofĀ
completed installations.Ā
⢠Identify, document, and promptly report installation issues, missing components, damage,Ā
or other potential quality concerns.Ā
⢠Assist with corrective work, recheck completed corrections, and help ensure requiredĀ
labels, equipment, accessories, and documentation are in place before vehicle release.
⢠Support quality documentation, audits, continuous-improvement efforts, and a ādo it rightĀ
the first timeā culture throughout the shop.
Shop Cleaning & Organization
⢠Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas throughout the North and SouthĀ
shop buildings.Ā
⢠Maintain orderly storage areas and ensure tools, materials, and equipment are properlyĀ
organized.Ā
⢠Stage vehicles, parts, materials, and equipment to support daily production activities.Ā
⢠Assist with moving equipment, parts, and other materials throughout the facility.Ā
⢠Maintain a clean and organized quality control/inspection area.
Facility & Grounds Maintenance
⢠Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and overall condition of the grounds and facility.Ā
⢠Perform routine groundskeeping, including mowing, trimming, weed control, andĀ
trash/debris removal.Ā
⢠Assist with seasonal needs such as snow removal and light building maintenance.Ā
⢠Conduct routine facility and grounds walkthroughs to identify and report safety hazards,Ā
damage, or maintenance concerns.Ā
⢠Help maintain clear access to entrances, exits, safety equipment, electrical panels, andĀ
walkways while promoting a clean, professional facility.
Inventory and General Shop Support
⢠Maintain organized and accessible inventory, tools, equipment, and shop supplies.Ā
⢠Assist with handling, staging, and properly storing materials throughout the facility.Ā
⢠Perform basic equipment checks, report maintenance needs, and ensure tools andĀ
equipment are returned to their designated locations.Ā
⢠Assist technicians and production team members with non-technical tasks, vehicleĀ
staging, shipping, receiving, and other operational needs.Ā
⢠Operate material-handling equipment when properly trained and certified, while followingĀ
all safety standards and supporting a clean, efficient shop environment.
Qualifications and Desired Characteristics
⢠Previous experience in a shop, warehouse, manufacturing, automotive, or relatedĀ
environment preferred; strong mechanical aptitude is a plus.Ā
⢠Valid driverās license with an acceptable driving record; forklift certification or ability toĀ
become certified required.Ā
⢠Dependable, self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work independently with minimalĀ
supervision.Ā
⢠Detail-oriented, accountable, and committed to doing the job correctly and safely the firstĀ
time.Ā
⢠Team-oriented, humble, coachable, and willing to learn and assist wherever needed whileĀ
taking pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient workplace.
Physical Requirements
⢠Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
⢠Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
⢠Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work indoors and outdoors in varying weatherĀ
conditions.
⢠Ability to safely enter and exit trucks and other commercial vehicles.
⢠Ability to inspect vehicles and equipment in shop and outdoor environments.
⢠Safely operate shop equipment and powered industrial vehicles, including forklifts, whenĀ
certified.
⢠Ability to safely move vehicles throughout the facility as needed.
⢠Ability to work around typical shop noise, tools, vehicles, equipment, and varyingĀ
temperatures
