Jovian Concepts, LLC is looking to hire an Infrastructure Software Engineer Level 2 for a great opportunity in the Annapolis Junction area.   

A current and active TS/SCI Clearance with a Polygraph from the MD Customer is required. No CCA's will be accepted at this time.



Description:

The Software Engineer develops, maintains, andenhances complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics,novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets,real-time systems, and business management information systems) based upondocumented requirements. Works individually or as part of a team. Reviews andtests software components for adherence to the design requirements anddocuments test results. Resolves software problem reports. Utilizes software developmentand software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment.Provides specific input to the software components of system design to includehardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS)/GovernmentOff-the-shelf (GOTS) in place of new development, and requirements analysis andsynthesis from system level to individual software components.


Key responsibilities may include:
  • Develop and sustain research infrastructure softwaresupporting complex systems
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systemsand operating environments, ensuring compatibility, performance, andmaintainability
  • Contribute across the software lifecycle: requirementsinterpretation, design, implementation, testing, verification, and deploymentof prototype and operational software
  • Build and improve automation, tooling, and CI/CDworkflows to accelerate development and increase reliability (e.g., buildpipelines, test automation, packaging, releases processes)
  • Work in Linux-based development and runtime environments,including scripting and troubleshooting at the OS and application layers
  • Collaborate with engineers/researchers to identifysuccessful approaches to complex problems, rapidly iterate prototypes, andtransition viable solutions toward operational use
  • Support networked systems and software that interactswith networking stacks, data flows, distributed services, or missionenvironments
  • Interface directly with customer stakeholders (technicaland programmatic) to coordinate priorities, communicate progress, and resolveissues
  • Monitor and direct subcontractor tasking as needed byproviding technical guidance, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring integrationand quality standards are met
  • Produce clear technical documentation (design notes,build/deploy instructions, test evidence, and operational runbooks)

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6+ years of experience and a Bachelors, 4+years and a Masters, or 2+ years and a Ph.D. in Computer Science or relateddiscipline. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, 4 additional years of experience isrequired for a total of 10 years
  • Software development experience with the building andintegration of applications/services in complex environments
  • Strong hands-on proficiency in Python and at least one ofC/C++, Java, or Go (exposure to all is a plus)
  • Familiarity with secure development practices inrestricted environments (e.g., hardened enclaves, controlled repos, offlinebuild patterns)
  • Working knowledge in software engineering practices andtooling, such as:
    *Git/GitHub/GitLab branching, PRs, and code reviews
    *Agile development practices
    *CI tooling (e.g., Jenkins) or similar pipelines
  • Strong problem-solving ability with a track record oflearning new technologies quickly and delivering results inambiguous/problem-driven research settings
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical issuesand tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences


Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience supporting research platforms or environmentswhere rapid prototyping transitions into operationally relevant software
  • Prior experience providing technical leadership,mentoring junior engineers, or coordinating work across development teams
  • Experience with design, development, test, verification,and certification of operational software (including evidence-driven testingand documentation)
  • Strong “systems” familiarity:
    *Linux and Windows system skills
    *Shell scripting and automation
    *Virtualization / VM technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM,VirtualBox, Proxmox)
  • Networking background:
    *TCP/IP fundamentals, routing/switching concepts,firewalls
    *Network service development, packet/data pipelineintegration, network troubleshooting
  • Experience with modern ecosystem tooling, such as:
    *Containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
    *Infrastructure automation via Ansible, Terraform
    *Artifact/package management, reproducible builds, releaseengineering
