Position Summary

The Portfolio Manager I provides analytical support and portfolio management for commercial and business banking, including spreading and preliminary analysis of existing customers and prospects. The role partners with commercial bankers to perform independent analysis of creditworthiness, prepare credit write-ups, monitor assigned portfolios, and support clients through the lending process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·          Provides support of loan officers and managers through financial statement spreading and analysis of new loan requests and existing credit relationships.

·          Prepares cash flow models for the basis of credit decisions.

·          Provides additional loan agreement / covenant monitoring support to commercial lending and underwriting groups.

·          Provides on-going portfolio management through spreading of on-going required financial statements as they are received from the Bank’s customers.

·          Develops a base understanding of various types of lending facilities as well as a variety of companies and industries.

  • Ensures all departmental documents and activities are performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures as applicable to this position, including completion of required compliance training.

·          Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Prepare basic credit analyses on commercial loans that facilitate the credit approval process for use by loan officers or committees on new, renewal, and extension loans.
  • Make appropriate recommendations for monitored accounts; report deteriorating credit situations to officer.
  • Perform duties with supervision of leadership or assigned senior-level colleague, providing opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of various lending facilities and a variety of companies and industries.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and/or legal documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to respond in writing to customer complaints, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations, to customers, clients, and other employees.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Education and/or Experience

  • BS/BA Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 1–2 years prior work experience preferred.

Computer Skills

  • MS Office programs, with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Financial spreading software.
  • Familiarity with bank operating systems (e.g., Loan Vantage, Synapsis, Synergy) or equivalent.

  • None.

  • Self-starter; ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
