Position Summary

St. Paul Elder Services is seeking a dependable and motivated Cook to join our Culinary Services team. In this role, you will prepare nutritious, high-quality meals that support the health and well-being of the seniors we serve. Working alongside the Nutrition Services team, you will ensure meals are prepared according to standardized recipes, prescribed diets, and food safety standards while providing an exceptional dining experience for our residents.

The ideal candidate is organized, team-oriented, and committed to quality food, excellent service, and creating a positive experience for the seniors we serve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals according to standardized recipes, prescribed diets, and food safety guidelines.
  • Review menus and production sheets to determine daily food preparation needs.
  • Taste and evaluate food during preparation to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Ensure proper portion sizes, texture, food quality, and safe serving temperatures.
  • Prepare therapeutic and modified diets and make approved substitutions as needed.
  • Coordinate meal preparation to ensure meals are served on time.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchens, refrigerators, freezers, storage areas, and food preparation spaces.
  • Receive and inspect food and supply deliveries as needed.
  • Assist with training team members on the proper use and care of kitchen equipment.
  • Assist with Nutrition Services operations in the absence of the Director of Nutrition Services and team leaders.
  • Participate in departmental audits, quality improvement initiatives, meetings, and in-service education.
  • Report equipment concerns and supply needs promptly.
  • Follow food safety, infection prevention, HIPAA, and workplace safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Ability to prepare quality meals in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to food quality, customer service, and food safety.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine lifting associated with food preparation.
  • Previous cooking experience in healthcare, senior living, hospitality, or commercial food service is preferred.
  • Experience preparing therapeutic diets and large-batch meals is a plus.
