Under the KSC/ NH-INBRE supported component, the incumbent will oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the departmental shared cell culture facility used for both research and instructional purposes. Responsibilities will include ensuring biosafety compliance, maintaining laboratory inventories and supplies, training undergraduate students using the facility for research or course-based activities, and providing essential operational oversight required to sustain a functional and compliant laboratory environment.

Duties/Responsibilities

Maintenance & Feeding of regular Daphnia cultures - 30%

  • Feeding cultures every M, W and Friday

  • Making Media for cultures

  • Documentation of all day to day activities

  • Making Stock solution for growth Media

  • Organization and cleaning of growth chambers and work area

Generation & Maintenance Arsenic Generational Daphnia cultures - 30%

  • Making Stock solution for arsenic growth Media

  • Proper packaging, labelling and disposal of arsenic waste

  • Organ dissections

  • Nucleic acid extractions

Generation & Maintenance Chemostats - 20%

  • Proper washing and autoclaving of glass bottles

  • Making media for algal cultures & testing pHs

  • Maintaining continuous algal cultures

Support for Undergraduate Research student – 20%

  • Support for ongoing research and course projects

  • Ordering lab supplies and keeping proper records of SDS sheets

  • Attend weekly meetings with the PI to update on lab

  • Training undergraduate students

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Biology or related field

  • BasicLaboratoryTechniquesthatincludebutnotlimitedtoDaphniacultureandmaintenance,algaecultureand maintenance, maintenance and initiation of generational cultures,making growth media and proper documentation of daily activities in lab notebook

  • Optimization of new laboratory protocols

Compensation Pay Range:

$21.56 an hour
