Job DetailsJob Location: Kenosha YMCA - Kenosha, WI 53144Position Type: Part TimeBE A PART OF SOMETHING GREAT  The Achiever’s Volunteer is a vital position to the success of the Achievers students as they provide additional support to the Achievers teachers and tutors by providing academic/social emotional to the students. The Achievers Volunteer has the option to come alongside in their areas of strength and interest that helps to meet the needs of the students. This can be through the means of tutoring, assisting with extension and enrichment activities, accompanying on field trips. WHAT YOU'LL DO AS A VOLUNTEER Help students achieve a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success. Identify students experiencing difficulties and provide encouragement and alternatives Provide academic assistance to assigned students, individually or in a small group setting. Document, track and maintain daily progress and academic records of assigned students. Provide feedback regarding student’s progress as well as behavior Acknowledge student efforts, accomplishments and progress Assist students in developing self-confidence, raising self-concept, and reducing anxiety or fear of failure in academic work Work with students to develop a high level of motivation in academic areas and positive attitudes toward learning and studying. Assist Achievers Teachers in facilitating enrichment activities and other program components (i.e. Physical Activity and Team Building Games, teaching a “hobby”, leading in a STEM activity) Serve as a role model for students being served. Adhere to all processes, procedures, rules and regulations of the YMCA, the Achievers program, and School District. Qualifications•    Minimum age requirement: 15 years old with recommendation from school personnel (principal, classroom teacher and/or guidance counselor •    Previous coaching, playing, or instructional experience preferred •    Knowledge of sports rules, techniques, and skill progression •    Strong communication and leadership skills •    Ability to work effectively with children, teens, and/or adults •    Ability to pass required background screening and child abuse prevention training The Achievers Volunteer understands the Kenosha YMCA has zero tolerance for abuse of youth in its programs by employees or volunteers and will follow child abuse prevention policies, comply with mandated reporting requirements, and cooperate with law enforcement. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
