Job Overview: The Childcare Assistant Teacher is an important part of the YMCA Before and After School Care team. They will be a part of an on-site team assisting children in kindergarten to 5th grade with program activities and developing their skills.

Part-time, Morning and/or Afternoon

Locations: Kingston City Schools, New Paltz, Ellenville, Highland, and Marlboro School Districts

Responsibilities: 

  • Works under the supervision of a Group Teacher or the Site Leadership team.
  • Ensure the daily care of every child by following all guidelines from the Office of Child and Family Services and YMCA standards.
  • Complete all OCFS required trainings
  • Create and implement fun and engaging learning experience for children.
  • Model positive behavior to demonstrate safety, personal safety and safety of others.
  • Assists students’ needs and conducts individual and group activities according to established curriculum.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Must be at least 18 year of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years’ experience working with children.
  • Excellent communication skills and both oral and written
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: art, helping with homework, songs/music, skits, sports, and recreational games, etc.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training required to be completed along with other trainings after hire
