Location Valley, Alabama Salary $55,000 / year
About Us
GFA Alabama, Inc. is a logistics company with 500–1,000 employees, operating warehouses and multiple
branch locations across the region, with transportation and related services at the core of our business.
Technology keeps our trucks moving, our warehouses running, and our branches connected — and we need
someone who can help keep it that way.
About the Job
We are not an IT company, and we are not looking for a specialist in one narrow field. We are looking for a
hands-on, curious generalist who enjoys fixing things and can handle a wide range of everyday IT work. You
will join our IT team (currently one person) and share responsibility for keeping our systems, networks,
cameras, and people running smoothly across all locations.
The role covers three areas: maintenance of our existing IT systems, development and improvement of
internal systems and tools, and training employees to use them well. You will regularly visit our business
locations to do this work on-site. This is an entry-level role. If you have solid fundamentals, good troubleshooting habits, and a willingness to learn, we will help you grow into the rest.
What You Will Do
Field & On-Site Work
• Visit branches, warehouses, and other business locations (up to ~300 miles) for scheduled on-site work and
on short notice for urgent issues.
• Fix internet, network, and hardware problems on-site.
• Install, set up, replace, and repair PCs, laptops, printers, scanners, and other equipment.
Network & Connectivity
• Troubleshoot internet outages, routers, switches, Wi-Fi, and basic firewall issues.
• Work with internet service providers and vendors to restore service.
Security Systems (CCTV & Access Control)
• Keep CCTV cameras, recorders (NVR/DVR), and access control systems (ACS) working and recording.
• Add or remove badges/user access and check camera coverage and footage when requested.
Servers & Cloud
• Help maintain on-premise servers and cloud servers: updates, backups, user accounts, and health checks.
• Spot problems early and escalate when needed.
End-User & Remote Support
• Resolve employee IT issues remotely using TeamViewer and similar tools, by phone, and in person.
• Support printers, peripherals, and common software.

Business Systems
• Administer Microsoft 365 (users, licenses, Outlook/Exchange, Teams, SharePoint/OneDrive).
• Maintain our groupware and other internal IT systems; keep simple documentation up to date.
Internal Systems Improvement & Development
• Find ways to improve how our internal systems and workflows run, and propose practical fixes.
• Build and improve internal tools, scripts, and automations using AI coding assistants (such as ChatGPT,
Claude, or Copilot).
• Write clear prompts, review what the AI produces, and test safely before anything touches live systems.
• Help roll out new systems and upgrades across locations.
Training & User Enablement
• Train employees on new and existing systems, Microsoft 365, and basic IT and security practices.
• Create simple how-to guides and quick reference materials, and lead short on-site training sessions.
What We Are Looking For ~
• Basic, hands-on knowledge across several areas: Windows PCs, networking (IP, DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi),
printers, and Microsoft 365.
• Comfortable troubleshooting remotely (TeamViewer or similar) and in person.
• Some exposure to servers (on-premise or cloud) and backups, or a strong willingness to learn.
• Experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, etc.) to write scripts or small tools, with the discipline
to test carefully and not break things.
• Valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and willingness to travel regionally, sometimes on short notice.
• Clear communicator who can explain technical issues to non-technical coworkers and train them on new
tools.
• Organized and dependable; able to work independently and prioritize when several issues happen at once.
• High school diploma or equivalent. IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+) or related coursework are
welcome but not required.
Strong Candidates Will Also Have
• Experience installing CCTV, access control systems, or low-voltage cabling (Cat5e/Cat6, terminations, rack
work).
• Experience working at an IT services, MSP, or software company.
• Exposure to logistics or warehouse technology (handheld scanners, label printers, rugged devices).
Working Conditions
• Regular travel to business locations for on-site work, with occasional overnight stays.
• Occasional after-hours or weekend work for outages and planned maintenance.
• Physical work in offices and warehouses: lifting up to ~50 lbs, using ladders, working in hot or cold
environments.
What We Offer
• Salary of $55,000 per year.
• Fuel reimbursement for work travel.
• Hands-on exposure to a wide range of IT — networking, servers, cloud, security systems, development, and
automation.
• Training support and room to grow with the company.
• Health insurance, paid time off, and other benefits.
