Rate of Pay: $21.78 to $29.70 hourly DOE, plus additional $3.00 per hour when performing the premiumadditional responsibilities.

Job Summary

The Fiber Optic Technician is responsible forengaging and developing customer relationships and providing solutions to ourcustomers through Ziply Fiber products and services.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

TheEssential Duties and Responsibilities listed below are a range of dutiesperformed by the employee and not intended to reflect all duties performed.

 

Customer Installation, Service, and Repair

·        Installand maintain residential internet and phone (ie: fiber drops, ONTs, routers,Wi-Fi extenders and inside premises wiring.)

·        Support,install, and repair company products and services.

·        Communicateeffectively and accurately with customers to reduce repeat service calls.

 

OSP Maintenance, Outage Prevention, and Field Support

·        Locateand report potential issues with OSP to prevent outages and maintain aprofessional appearing plant.

·        Respondto service outages and assist vendors when/where needed.

·        FiberOptic Splitter adds & Hub work.

·        Whennot re-supply, the technician will be in the load performing Fiber Tech work.

 

Technical Systems, Equipment, and Documentation

·        Readand interpret outside plant drawings for drop placement, customer serviceorders and repair tickets.

·        Useautomated dispatch equipment (i.e., handheld terminals), and appropriate testequipment to verify proper installation and/or repair.

·        ResidentialGateways and HSI (High-Speed Interface) business class routers.

 

Safety, Access, and Standby Requirements

·        Workaloft on ladders against buildings or poles while connecting, installing orrepairing fiber and wireless services. Bucket truck and other vehicle/traileruse may be required.

·        Must beavailable for Standby rotation.

 

Material Handling, Inventory, and Re-Supply

·        Drivebox truck to pick up material and deliver to needed locations.

·        Organizeand clean the storage units, breakdown pallets, put material away.

·        Makere-order list for next run.

·        Frequencywill be dependent on volume of work and consumption of material.

 

Other Duties

·        Performs other duties as required to support the business andevolving organization.

 

PremiumAdditional Responsibilities

·        Business Hosted Voice. 

·        Commercial designedcircuits managed WiFi Solutions.  

·        Turns up and Assistswith Provisioning repeat design circuits and managed routers.  

·        Central Office tasks.

 

Qualifications

·        High school diploma or GED required. 

·        Experience supporting and interacting withcustomers is preferred. 

·        Experience with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel,and different PC operating systems preferred.

·        1-2 years of experience in fiber data and voiceinstallation and maintenance Telecommunications wiring color-code competency isa plus.

·        Additional certification, licensing, orexperience (i.e., hosted voice, ethernet, Fiber, Optics, flagging, CPR etc.) isa plus.

·        Must have and maintain a validdriver’s license, auto insurance, and satisfactory driving record.

·        Must complete a pre-employment drug screening.

 

Knowledge, Skills,and Abilities:

·        Ability to work nightsand weekends, as well as on-call rotation as required.

·        Ability to work aloft fromheights on poles and ladders.

·        Ability to follow throughon jobs to completion in a timely manner.

·        Ability to remain calm inhigh stress situations and demonstrate good judgment.

·        Basic keyboard and software skills.

·        Good mathematicsskills.

·        Active listening,decision making and strong problem-solving skills.

·        Ability to communicateeffectively with customers and provide excellent customer service.

·        Strong verbal andwritten communication skills.

·        Ability to read and understand road maps, discern street signs,and address numbers.

·        Ability to beunaffected by flashing lights and strobes.

·        Ability to operate equipment to perform theessential functions of the job (i.e., splicing tools, test equipment,computer/laptop, phone, and company vehicle.)

·        Ability to drive on behalf of the company in a safeand responsible manner.

Fiber Optic Technician work involves drivinga motor vehicle and must be able to perform all functions of operating a motor vehicle regularly and safely. Essential and marginal functions mayrequire maintaining physical condition necessary to frequently stand, walk, climb,or sit for prolonged periods of time and regularly position oneself (i.e., bend,twist, reach, grasp, push, pull) to handle, lift and carry objects over 50 lbs.

 

Work Environment

The Fiber OpticTechnician will frequently work in cold or hot temperatures and at heights over15 feet. Work occasionally will be in confined spaces (i.e., attics, crawlspaces, trenches) and involve moderate to high noise levels. The Fiber OpticTechnician will also work near power lines and electricity, as well as work andtravel in inclement weather.
