Building Engineer

Manufacturing Engineering 

Position Summary:

The Building Engineer is responsible for various elements reviewing proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate, and ensuring all projects meet budget limitations. This role is responsible for working with Manufacturing Engineering (ME) sections to comprehend building modifications and expansions specifications to properly manage projects. The Building Engineer is also responsible for working with the Environmental Group and Energy Specialist to ensure successful waste management, identify constraints, and likewise identify methods for resolution. The Building Engineer is additionally responsible for working with ME Admin for fixed assets inventory.

 

Outline of Duties:

  • Work with other Manufacturing Engineering (ME) sections to understand building modification/expansion needs and manage those projects.
  • Work with contractors, architects, and associated ME sections to develop building design concepts, ensure job site safety, cost, and schedule achievement. 
  • Develop scope of work documents and proposals. Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend bidding meetings, to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Issue purchase orders and other related project management documentation.
  • Creates and manages project schedules, punch lists, and necessary change orders.
  • Work with city, county, and state officials to secure necessary work permits and building certificates.
  • Coordinate building service contracts and preventative maintenance activities with Building Maintenance group.
  • Work with Environmental Group to ensure successful management of 3 wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Work with onsite Energy Specialist to identify and implement energy reduction activities.
  • Actively pursues new ways of analyzing and communicating data to improve utility efficiency.
  • Develops and maintains lists of critical product and process indicators.
  • Completes Kaizen activity that applies statistical and other improvement tools.
  • Meets with vendors and manages vendor project activities.
  • Creates professional documents to record and track measurement results.
  • Communicates effectively with upper management on project progress.
  • Works with Environmental section to determine air permit impact of building additions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Management or related field, and/or equivalent.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • Experience with Arc Flash
