Summary: A Produce Department Manager’s role is to oversee and coordinate all activities in the Lassen's Produce Department, in collaboration with guidance and instruction from the Store Manager and Regional Produce Buyer. A Produce Department Manager ensures cleanliness and organizational standards are met, maintained and exceeded within the department at all times. A Produce Manager may be expected to obtain extensive knowledge of Natural Foods and some basic knowledge of Nutritional Supplements including vitamins, herbs, amino acids, sports nutrition, food supplements, and health and beauty aids.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  1. Be responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory, supplies, and equipment; regularly meets all order deadlines. Rotate product using code dates, and follow the company’s cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  2. Records delivery of merchandise, compares record with merchandise ordered, and reports discrepancies to control costs and maintain correct inventory levels.
  3. Records any & all damaged or spoiled merchandise upon receiving, then reports this information back to the vendor/distributor for proper crediting.
  4. Inspects merchandise on the sales floor to ensure it is correctly priced and displayed by stocking, cutting, trimming, and culling produce.
  5. Ensures compliance with COOL requirements, including inspecting product tags, invoices, and signs.
  6. Maintains the storage area is organized and clean at all times.
  7. Works with Lassen’s Regional Produce Buyer and Store Manager to determine additions to or deletions of inventory, based in part by information obtained through careful and frequent evaluation of Lassen’s Chain-wide Database Sales Reports, and current market trends.
  8. Provides daily “Passive Samples” as directed in the Lassens Store Audit and the Lassens Demo Program. Adheres to all established safety/sanitation and Health Department requirements. 
  9. Listens to customer complaints, examines returned merchandise, and resolves problems to restore and promote good public relations.
  10. Displays correct shelf labels and signs in front of correct products using UPC# and date range as exclusive criteria.
  11. Adheres to and maintains department cleaning policy and procedures in the LASSENS REGIONAL QUARTERLY DEEP CLEANING LOG.
  12. Strictly maintains a working “Special Order Book” in accordance with Lassens Special Order Policy. Assists team in research and acquisition of any item/items requested by customers in a timely manner.
  13. Assists fellow Team Members in completing difficult sales.
  14. Plans, follows through with, and maintains departments merchandise and promotional displays, positively affecting Produce Department sales.
  1. All other duties assigned by management. 


Supervisor Responsibilities
Depending on the Produce Department size and volume, directly supervise 0 to 5 Team Members in the Produce Department. The Produce Department Manager’s responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; regularly reviewing and responding to communications from the Administrative Team on the Daily News & Actions document; appraising and documenting performance and job results, rewarding and disciplining Team Members as needed; addressing complaints and resolving problems with customers and Team Members. The Produce Department Manager carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
