Responsibilities

Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) is a newly opened (July, 2018) 126-bed, inpatient psychiatric hospital and start-up joint venture between Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine and Universal Health Services.

In addition to a general adult unit and dedicated adolescent unit, the new facility will also offer services for treating those with co-occurring disorders on the psychiatric-medical unit, an intensive adult unit to care for those with severe conditions, as well as a women’s trauma unit.

 Psychiatrists are responsible for completing the following duties and tasks:

          • Attends and leads rounds and treatment team meetings.
          • As available, reviews the results of prior examinations and psychiatric evaluations, tests, and treatment.
          • Interviews and evaluates persons assigned to their care by conducting psychiatric assessments and as needed, physical examinations and recording results.
          • Order tests as needed.
          • Makes of confirms diagnosis of an individual’s treatment needs.
          • Discusses findings of examinations and tests with the individual, his or her family, and treatment team members.
          • Prescribes psychiatric treatment, medications, and other treatments to address psychiatric and other medical and behavioral problems; formulates a multidisciplinary program for the individual; and examines different approaches to improve the overall health and well-being of the individual.
          • Assesses individuals for admission.
