WHAT YOU’LL DOÂ
As an admissions nurse at VITAS Healthcare, you will be the first face of hospice for patients and families.Â
Your meeting will likely be the first time they have an in-depth discussion about end-of-life care, and your approach will set their expectations for the journey ahead.Â
With this in mind, you will:Â
Â
- Travel to meet with patients and families Â
- Educate patients and families about the benefits of hospice care and the services offered by VITASÂ
- Ask questions and listen with empathy as you learn about each patient’s end-of-life needs, wants and beliefsÂ
- Use this information to determine if hospice is the right path for the patientÂ
- Ensure a comfortable transition for patients who elect to receive hospice care with VITASÂ
WHERE YOU’LL WORKÂ
Most admissions nurses work four 10-hour shifts per week, but your schedule may vary.Â
You will spend your day traveling within your assigned service area. As calls arrive, you’ll go to hospitals, nursing facilities and patient residences to assess each patient’s need for care.Â
