Job Description

 

Education Instructor

RESPONSIBLE TO: Club Director

 

GENERAL FUNCTION: 

 

The Education Support Professional at the Boys & Girls Club plays a key role in enhancing academic success for youth by providing direct educational support, tutoring, and program assistance. This position ensures that members (ages 6-18) receive guidance in their learning journey, fosters a positive learning environment, and supports educational programs that align with the Club’s mission to help young people reach their full potential.

 

Must possess Emergency First Aid & CPR Certificate.

EDUCATION: High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in education, Youth Development, or a related field preferred. Must have experience working with children and youth in an educational or afterschool setting.

JOB SEGMENTS:

  • Provide homework help, tutoring, and academic enrichment activities for members.
  • Assist in implementing literacy, numeracy, and STEM-based learning programs.
  • Support students with different learning styles and needs, reinforcing positive study habits.
  • Encourage member participation in academic programs and assist with project-based learning.
  • Help organize and implement structured learning activities, ensuring they are engaging and effective.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all members.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, encouraging positive attitudes toward learning.
  • Support students in developing confidence, problem-solving skills, and academic independence.
  • Assist in maintaining records of student progress and participation.
  • Set up learning materials, manage supplies, and maintain an organized educational space.

  

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and actively engage with students for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move educational materials and supplies (up to 25 lbs).
  • Capable of participating in physical activities, including outdoor recreation and movement-based learning.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to supervise and interact with students effectively.
  • Patience and emotional resilience to support students with diverse learning needs and behavioral challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Ability to remain calm and effectively manage classroom disruptions or conflicts.
  • High level of enthusiasm, energy, and passion for working with youth.
