The Speech-Language Pathologist II (SLP)Ā is responsible forĀ identifying, assessing, and treating patientsĀ Ā 

with cognitive communication and/or swallowing disorders. The SLP also provides counseling/ education toĀ Ā 

patients, caregivers, and staffĀ regardingĀ cognitive-communicationĀ and/ orĀ swallowing disorders.Ā

Job Description:Ā 

  • Conduct comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for adults whoĀ exhibitĀ cognitive-communication disorders and for neonates, infants, pediatrics, and adults whoĀ exhibitĀ feeding/ swallowing disorders. These assessments incorporate both formal and informal test procedures. Diagnostic conclusions and recommendations are based upon test results, clinical observations, background/ history, and information from otherĀ specialist, patients, and caregivers.Ā 

  • DevelopĀ appropriate treatmentĀ plans and bases treatment methods and procedures on a definitiveĀ Ā rationale, as an ongoing process, adapting to meet the patient’s needs.Ā 

  • Counsel patients and caregiversĀ regardingĀ the cognitive-communicative/ swallowĀ disorder. DiscussĀ Ā progress and recommends follow-up services and/ or provides instruction for carry-over and/ orĀ Ā home programs, withĀ patient’sĀ and caregivers upon discharge.Ā 

  • Communicate patient care needs, progress, and plans with the treatment team members to supportĀ Ā theĀ interdisciplinary team model forĀ optimalĀ treatment outcomes.Ā 

  • Support collaborative and multidisciplinary research; applies research findings to practice andĀ encourages,Ā participatesĀ in, and promotes research activities thatĀ establishĀ the outcomes of patient-management.Ā

Requirements:Ā 

  • MastersĀ Degree-Speech Language PathologyĀ 

  • Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) Must be obtained within 9 months for fulltime employees andĀ 18 monthsĀ for part-time employees.Ā Ā 

  • Current and valid license to practice Speech-Language Pathology in the state of KentuckyĀ 

  • Maintain Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)Ā 

  • Must obtain BLS withinĀ 30 daysĀ
