The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Ā 

  • Lead a team of flight software engineers through the full software development lifecycle

  • Architect, design, develop, and deliver high-reliability flight software for embedded and edge computing platforms using C++Ā 

  • Provide day-to-day technical direction, work prioritization, and mentorship to team members; foster a culture of engineering excellence and accountabilityĀ 

  • Define and enforce software architecture standards, coding practices, and design patterns forĀ mission-critical systemsĀ 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, GNC, avionics, and mission operations to translate system requirements into robust software solutionsĀ 

  • Conduct design reviews and code reviews; ensure technical quality and mission assurance across deliverablesĀ 

  • Support integration and test activities, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testingĀ 

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks; drive root cause analysis and resolution of complex software anomaliesĀ 

  • Coordinate with program management to communicate status, risks, and resource needsĀ 

  • Contribute to proposal efforts and technical documentation in support of national security programsĀ 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical fieldĀ 

  • 7+ years of professional experience in embedded software developmentĀ 

  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systemsĀ 

  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)Ā 

  • Experience with microcontroller peripherals (ADC, DAC, I2C, SPI, UART, etc.)Ā 

  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelinesĀ 

  • Knowledge of software development forĀ mission-critical systemsĀ 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fieldĀ 

  • Experience with embedded Linux development andĀ YoctoĀ 

  • ExperienceĀ leading softwareĀ technical teamsĀ 

  • Knowledge of communication protocols used in spacecraft systemsĀ 

  • Experience with bare-metal programming for microcontrollersĀ
