Job Purpose

The General Sorter is responsible for accurately identifying, sorting, and processing scrap metal to support efficient yard operations. This role ensures material quality, safe handling, and proper preparation for shipment while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in manually sorting, processing, and staging non-ferrous and ferrous scrap materials.
Maintain overall yard cleanliness and housekeeping, including sweeping, debris removal, and organizing operational areas.
Provide general facility and physical maintenance support across all yard departments as directed.
Safely use basic hand tools and light material-handling equipment to support day-to-day operations.
Strictly adhere to all environmental health and safety protocols, including proper PPE usage and hazard reporting.
Attend all required safety, training and team meetings
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge of various metal types preferred
Strong attention to detail and safety
Ability to work effectively in a team setting

Working conditions

Ability to work in a physically demanding, outdoor environment

Physical requirements

Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50lbs)
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and repetitive tasks
