Reporting directly to the Head of Billing, theMedical Billing Specialist acts as the bridge between the team of practitionersand insurance companies and contributes to the practice's overall revenueperformance. As an advocate for our patients, you’ll be working with a team makinga positive difference in the lives of the people of our community.

 

The ideal candidate will offer from 3 to 5years of experience handling accounts receivable, including collections,private billing, census reporting, Medicare, Medicaid, and Private insurancemanagement (HMO); and maintaining accurate accounting records.

 

This position isremote with a PST preferred time zone. A stable internet connection is requiredand virtual communication via Microsoft Teams is required.

 

Responsibilities:

Act as a valued member of the EMH team

  • Routinelyattend department meetings and on-going in-service and training programs, topresent and exchange pertinent information.
  • Relayinformation between licensed staff and other staff members, and provide themwith updates as needed.

 

Support EMH’s strategic planning and optimalfinancial reporting
  • Contributebilling information needed for strategic plans and reviews.
  • Implementproduction, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.
  • Resolveproblems and identify billing system improvements.

Ensure timely verifications & referrals

  • Confirm/Verifyinsurance benefits and financial data with the appropriate carrier via on-lineverification systems or telephone inquires.
  • Obtainand update demographic, next-of-kin, and insurance information, includingreferrals, authorizations and signatures on patients following the HealthInsurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules and regulations.
  • Respectpatient confidentiality and withholds restrictive information according toHIPAA guidelines.
  • Collectappropriate documentation for managed care programs regarding referrals andauthorizations.

 

Facilitate payment processing, reconciliation,and reporting

  • Adhereto established reporting procedures to ensure that the numbers balance.
  • Maintainworking knowledge of all required computer systems.
  • Maintaincurrent and accurate computer data.


Offer administration team support

  • Welcomesvisitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering orreferring inquires. Answering, forwarding, screening phones calls and routingcalls as necessary.
  • Assistwith administrative tasks including copying, faxing, taking notes,making travel plans but not limited to scanning of medical records
  • Scheduleappointments according to the templates/departmental scripts while meetingbusiness unit scheduling accuracy requirements.
  • Scheduleappointments according to the physician templates for similar types ofphysicians, generally at one office or multiple session timeshares (singlespecialty phone room or front desk environment).
