Class 2 HGV Driver

4 Month Contract With A Local Authority

To undertake HGV Class 2 driving duties for refuse collection services, ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable collection of waste across Luton.

The postholder will operate refuse vehicles, complete scheduled collection rounds and work as part of a team to deliver a high-quality waste collection service. The role requires a hands-on approach, including assisting with loading bins, following health and safety procedures, and maintaining professional standards while representing the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive HGV Class 2 refuse collection vehicles safely and responsibly across designated routes.
  
• Complete refuse collection rounds efficiently and in line with service requirements.
  
• Work as part of a refuse collection team to ensure daily targets and schedules are achieved.
  
• Assist with the loading and collection of bins as part of a hands-on operational role.
  
• Carry out multi-drop collection rounds and follow allocated routes.
  
• Complete daily vehicle checks and report any defects or issues promptly.
  
• Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
  
• Operate vehicles in accordance with legal requirements, company procedures and road safety regulations.
  
• Provide a professional and courteous service when working within the community.
  
• Support colleagues and contribute to effective team working.
  
• Maintain cleanliness and basic care of the assigned vehicle and equipment.
  
• Report any operational issues, hazards or incidents appropriately.
  
• Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.
  

Requirements

Knowledge & Qualifications

• Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence.
  
• Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
  
• Good understanding of road safety requirements and vehicle checks.
  
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures within a driving or operational environment.
  
• Ability to follow routes, schedules and operational instructions.
  

Experience

• Minimum of 12 months’ experience driving HGV Class 2 vehicles.
  
• Experience of refuse collection, waste services or similar operational environments is desirable.
  
• Experience of multi-drop driving or route-based delivery work.
  
• Experience working as part of a team in a physically demanding role.
