The Health Sciences Librarian manages the ongoing operation of the library for the Centra system. Maintains up-to-date nursing and medical core collections. Manages circulation and access to print and electronic materials. Conducts literature searches and inter-library loan materials. Engages in bibliographic instruction and provides other library services for patrons.
Responsibilities
Monitors library expenses and budget status
Participates in systematic library evaluation to meet users' information needs
Seeks opportunities to enhance library service delivery
Monitors working condition of library computers, printers and copier
Submits library service and activities reports
Maintains Centra Library Services intranet site
Prepares purchase orders to secure new reference materials periodicals and supplies
Reviews and culls library collections according to established policy
Updates print and electronic journal subscriptions annually
Maintains current library holdings database in the CyberTools for Libraries Integrated Library System
Solicits recommendations from Centra College, Nursing Research Councils and library users when evaluating/updating core holdings
Monitors and addresses access challenges to library's electronic resources
Tracks usage statistics for electronic resources
Administers OpenAnthens
Conducts literature searches using appropriate databases and electronic resources
Oversees DOCLINE and OCLC interlibrary loan network participation
Serves as a resource to individuals and groups engaged in research and special projects
Provides training and education materials to students, faculty and staff in the library and off-site
Conducts individual and small group tutorials
Teaches literature searches as related to evidenced-based practices
Maintains Centra Library Service page in Learning Management System for Centra College
May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time
Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Library Science
Preferred Education: ALA-accredited Masters Degree
Required Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of related experience in a medical or health professional library
