MISSION:   Liberty Christian Academy exists to support parents and guardians in their biblical responsibility to nurture and train their children. Thus, LCA provides opportunities which allow students to realize their God-given potential and to live lives that glorify God in the spiritual, academic, social, physical and vocational realms.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Head Varsity Wrestling Coach will work under the supervision of the Athletic Director in accordance with the mission of Liberty Christian Academy. The coach must work within the framework of the overall athletic program at LCA and must understand the importance of working with the coaches of other sports to reach a common goal. The coach is responsible for recruiting, teaching and training athletes to reach their full potential as a Christian, good citizen and the most successful wrestler that they can be Sportsmanship and discipline is of utmost importance and the coach must be the example that others can follow.  The coach must oversee the entire wrestling program (High School and Middle School) and aid in hiring varsity and sub varsity coaches. The varsity coach must ensure the coaching staff has the same goals and that all protocols are followed

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The Head Wrestling Coach should have significant experience in participating as a wrestler and experience as a coach of wrestling.
  • The coach should have documented experience and skill in designing, implementing, and evaluating athletes in the sport of wrestling
  • The coach should be able to work with, train, and motivate student athletes.
  • The coach must be able to communicate effectively with parents and school administration
  • The coach must pass all VHSL coaching qualification tests
  • College wrestling experience would be preferred  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP -

  • Act as the spiritual leader of school and community.
  • Show evidence of a consistent time of personal Bible study, prayer and outreach.
  • Maintain a Christ-like attitude.

 

 

SPECIFIC TO HEAD VARSITY -

  • Communicate with his coaching staff, athletes, parents, and administration as a representative of LCA
  • Teach proper technique of the sport of wrestling and athletes should be corrected when not performing skills correctly with out ridiculing them
  • Design and implement a comprehensive conditioning program which is safe and prepares the athletes for competition in an extremely demanding program.
  • Provide year round training for athletes that are motivated to reach their full potential as a wrestler
  • Create a reasonable practice schedule and follow the school schedule at LCA. Practices should begin and end on time.
  • All practices should be supervised and the environment should be safe
  • Schedule a supervisory system for the locker rooms and during bus travel. Protocols set forth by the visiting school should be followed. LCA code of conduct should be followed during all events whether at LCA or another school
  • Communicate all rules the wrestlers must follow to the athletes and parents. Discipline should be handled in a safe way and the athlete should be handled with respect when addressing discipline issues. Serious violations should be passed on he the Athletic Director or Principal
  • Follow all VHSL and NFHS rules
  • Attend clinics, conferences, workshops and professional organizational events to increase abilities as a wrestling coach
  • Develop and follow a budget for team needs such as wrestling equipment and travel. The LCA Invitational is the primary fund raising event for the wrestling team and the Head Coach must take a major role in the implementation of the tournament.
  • Develop a system to provide uniforms, warmups and headgear to wrestlers. Also, a system to take up all equipment at seasons end and turn in an inventory to the Athletic Director
  • Monitor student athletes academic performance and work with athletes, parents and teachers to make sure the athlete is doing their very best in their academic pursuits
  • Make sure all athletes have been picked up after practices and if athletes do not return to LCA by bus after away events that the athlete is signed out by a parent.
