ND Defense LLC is offering a 90-day full-time or part-time internship for individuals interested in defense prototype manufacturing. The Prototype Technician Intern assists with building prototypes of tactical wheeled vehicles and battlefield systems, as well as maintaining and repairing existing vehicles and products within the ND Defense fleet. 

Interns who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, and a willingness to learn may be considered for full-time employment at the conclusion of the internship period.


Responsibilities: 

  • Assembles prototype military products in preparation for design validation testing.
  • Supports internal design validation testing, customer testing, and marketing events showcasing Navistar Defense products. 
  • Repairs and maintains heavy equipment including, engines, hydraulics, and transmissions. 
  • Removes, disassembles, cleans, and reassembles components. 
  • Uses service manuals to understand issues and selects the proper tools and protocols for an assignment.
  • Diagnoses issues and performs failure analyses.
  • Operates a forklift, crane and other equipment required for assembly tasks.
  • Reports safety related concerns to shop manager while also attending weekly safety meetings.
  • Builds and assist verification and functionality of future prototype vehicles with build coordinator through virtual and physical builds.
  • Performs daily housekeeping tasks such as cleaning shop areas.
  • Follows all safety requirements, utilizes tools safely, and wears appropriate PPE.
  • Assists with shipping and receiving activities if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma
  • At least 2-4 years of verified mechanical experience 
  • A relevant combination of additional experience or advanced degree may meet these requirements
  • Must be able to read and understand service manuals, blueprints, and work instructions
  • Must be able to travel (10 to 20 percent)
  • Must be able to work Mandatory OT when required
  • Essential Functions include but are not limited to: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, squat, kneel, push, pull, and walk and stand.
