Our client, an established steel manufacturing company based in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, is looking for an experienced Hydraulic and Pneumatic Technician to join its new plant maintenance team. The role focuses on maintaining the fluid power systems that drive critical production equipment across the plant.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Diagnose and repair faults on pumps, valves, cylinders, motors, accumulators and actuators.
Maintain hydraulic systems on presses, rolling mills, shears and handling equipment.
Maintain compressed air systems, including compressors, dryers and air distribution lines.
Install, test and commission hydraulic and pneumatic components and circuits.
Fabricate, replace and pressure-test hoses, fittings and pipework.
Monitor oil condition, filtration and contamination, and carry out oil changes.
Read and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic circuit diagrams.
Follow lock-out/tag-out, stored energy isolation and PPE procedures at all times.
Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately.
Take part in root cause analysis to reduce leaks, failures and downtime.
Be available for shift work, standby and emergency call-outs.

Requirements

Trade Tested / Red Seal Fitter, Millwright or related trade.

Formal hydraulics and pneumatics training (e.g. Bosch Rexroth, Festo, Parker) is highly advantageous.

Minimum 3–5 years' hydraulic and pneumatic experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

Experience in steel, foundry, heavy engineering or a similar heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred.

Strong fault-finding skills on high-pressure hydraulic systems.

Understanding of proportional and servo valves is advantageous.

Good understanding of the OHS Act and stored energy safety practices.

Willingness to work shifts, overtime, standby and weekends.

Valid driver's licence, clear criminal record and ability to pass a medical assessment.
