Our client, an established steel manufacturing company based in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, is looking for a skilled Welder to join its new plant maintenance team. The successful candidate will carry out high-quality welding repairs and fabrication work that supports safe, continuous production.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out maintenance, repair and fabrication welding on plant equipment and structures.
Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and wear-resistant materials to required standards.
Use a range of welding processes, including SMAW (arc), GMAW (MIG/MAG), FCAW and GTAW (TIG).
Perform hard-facing and build-up welding on worn components.
Prepare joints by cutting, grinding and bevelling before welding.
Read and interpret drawings, welding symbols and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
Inspect completed welds visually and correct defects.
Set up, maintain and look after welding equipment and consumables.
Follow hot work permits, fire prevention and PPE procedures at all times.
Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately.
Support boilermakers and fitters during shutdowns and major repairs.
Be available for shift work, standby and emergency call-outs.

Requirements

Trade Tested Welder or relevant welding qualification.

Coded welding certification (e.g. ASME IX, ISO 9606 or SANS) is highly advantageous.

Minimum 3 years' welding experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

Experience in steel, foundry, heavy engineering or a similar heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred.

Competence across multiple welding processes and positions.

Ability to read and interpret drawings and welding symbols.

Good understanding of the OHS Act and hot work safety practices.

Willingness to work shifts, overtime, standby and weekends.

Clear criminal record and ability to pass a medical assessment.
