Our client, an established steel manufacturing company based in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, is looking for a skilled Welder to join its new plant maintenance team. The successful candidate will carry out high-quality welding repairs and fabrication work that supports safe, continuous production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance, repair and fabrication welding on plant equipment and structures.
  • Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and wear-resistant materials to required standards.
  • Use a range of welding processes, including SMAW (arc), GMAW (MIG/MAG), FCAW and GTAW (TIG).
  • Perform hard-facing and build-up welding on worn components.
  • Prepare joints by cutting, grinding and bevelling before welding.
  • Read and interpret drawings, welding symbols and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
  • Inspect completed welds visually and correct defects.
  • Set up, maintain and look after welding equipment and consumables.
  • Follow hot work permits, fire prevention and PPE procedures at all times.
  • Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately.
  • Support boilermakers and fitters during shutdowns and major repairs.
  • Be available for shift work, standby and emergency call-outs.


Requirements

  • Trade Tested Welder or relevant welding qualification.
  • Coded welding certification (e.g. ASME IX, ISO 9606 or SANS) is highly advantageous.
  • Minimum 3 years' welding experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in steel, foundry, heavy engineering or a similar heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred.
  • Competence across multiple welding processes and positions.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and welding symbols.
  • Good understanding of the OHS Act and hot work safety practices.
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, standby and weekends.
  • Clear criminal record and ability to pass a medical assessment.
