Position Summary

 The Materials Buyer I is responsible for managing daily Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) purchasing and providing vital administrative support. This includes processing orders, maintaining vendor records, and helping ensure plant operations run smoothly and without costly downtime.

 

Essential Functions

  • Issue purchase orders (POs) for non-production items, including industrial spare parts, safety equipment, facility supplies, and consumables.
  • Monitor MRO inventory levels to prevent plant stockouts and coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure critical parts are readily available.
  • Source competitive quotes from approved vendors for various operational supplies and services.
  • Partner with the maintenance, receiving, and accounts payable teams to ensure the smooth flow of goods and swift resolution of invoice or delivery issues.
  • Monitor shared procurement inboxes, manage filing systems, and coordinate meetings with internal stakeholders and vendor representatives.
  • Support the Materials Buyer II in raw material procurement as needed.
  • Ensure procurement data and supplier records (pricing, lead times, contact info) are updated and accurate in the internal ERP/MRP system.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is a plus.
  • 0 - 2 years of administrative, purchasing, or supply chain support experience.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (Microsoft Dynamics preferred).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for supplier and internal stakeholder interactions.
  • Detail-oriented with solid organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, plant-floor environment. 

Physical Demands

  • Must distinguish colors and pass a colorblind test.
  • Finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination for operation of office equipment, including PC.
  • Sitting for periods of time, working at a desk in office environment
  • Light lifting, carrying of files, supplies, ability to move, carry, lift up to 30 lbs. of objects.
  • Ability to speak and hear customers, vendors, and or other employees via phone or in person. 
  • Requires sufficient autonomy, standing and walking to move for one office location to another and throughout the plant.
