Job Description

Software Engineers at Allstate (Consultant II through Lead) build and enhance digital products using modern engineering practices and 12-factor application principles. Engineers across all levels own the full software development lifecycle, contributing to both frontend (web/mobile) and backend services while leveraging test-driven development, continuous integration, and cloud-native practices.Ā 

As engineers grow in level, expectations are scaled from hands-on development and team collaboration to technical leadership, cross-product influence, and strategic partnership.Ā 

Key ResponsibilitiesĀ 

Consultant II – Core ExpectationsĀ 

  • Participate in iteration planning to ensure shared understanding of stories and backlog itemsĀ 

  • Engage in daily stand-ups acrossĀ site, cross-site, and product teamsĀ 

  • Contribute to retrospectives and implement feedback to improve team performanceĀ 

  • Design, develop, test, andĀ maintainĀ applications across the full stack with guidance as neededĀ 

  • Practice paired programming and test-driven development (TDD) to deliver high-quality codeĀ 

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and continuous delivery practicesĀ 

  • Troubleshoot and support software products in user environmentsĀ 

  • Collaborate closely with team members and activelyĀ participateĀ in knowledge sharingĀ 

  • Apply foundational engineering principles to solve well-defined problemsĀ

Senior Consultant II – Expanded Scope & InfluenceĀ 

In addition to Consultant II expectations:Ā 

  • Execute against product and enterprise strategies with a strong customer-centric mindsetĀ 

  • Contribute to technical decision-making, balancing simplicity, scalability, and performanceĀ 

  • Work more independently on complex features and system componentsĀ 

  • Mentor and support junior engineers to elevate overall team capabilityĀ 

  • Actively contribute to team knowledge and engineering best practicesĀ 

Ā 

Lead – Technical Leadership & Strategic ImpactĀ 

In addition to all prior expectations:Ā 

  • Significant contributions toĀ inceptions, injecting technical strategy into backlogsĀ 

  • Partner with product managers and stakeholders to align engineering and businessĀ strategiesĀ across productsĀ 

  • Serve as a domain expert and advocate for modern technology stacks and architectural best practicesĀ 

  • Drive cross-product collaboration and influence engineering direction across teamsĀ 

  • Coach engineers in TDD, paired programming, and agile practicesĀ 

  • Lead retrospectives with a focus on continuous improvement and team effectivenessĀ 

  • Set technical direction and guide complex system design decisionsĀ

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesĀ 

  • Consultant II / Sr. Consultant II:Ā No direct supervisory responsibilitiesĀ

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is 85,000.00 - 145,075.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
