Position Overview:

TheĀ Respiratory TherapistĀ role evaluates, treats, and cares for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Practicing under the direction of the Respiratory Department Head. Respiratory therapists assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care therapeutic treatments and diagnostic procedures, including the supervision of respiratory therapy Technicians.

  • Assess patients and recommend appropriate respiratory therapy treatments

  • Administer doctor-recommended respiratory therapy treatments

  • Plan, prepare, and administer treatments such as IPPB, aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, and sputum inductions

  • Perform diagnostic pulmonary and cardiac tests

  • Inspect, test, maintain, and operate respiratory therapy equipment

  • Respond to ā€œcode blueā€ emergencies, maintain airways, and perform CPR

  • Instruct and supervise respiratory technicians

  • Ensure patient care documentation is timely, legible, concise, and meets departmental standards

  • Use resources and materials efficiently and safely

  • Perform all duties promptly with competence and care

  • Maintain a neat appearance and adhere to facility dress code policies

  • While on assignment, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible and accountable to their assigned patients and to the client institution. The Respiratory Therapist is under the direct supervision of the Department Head or other assigned personnel and must have the ability to follow directions/instruction from his/her supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree from an accredited respiratory therapy program.

  • A minimum of 6 months of experience in a skilled nursing facility setting is required.

  • Current license as a Respiratory Therapist as required by the state of Tennessee.

  • National Provider BLS or CPR - American Heart Association upon hire
