As a Laboratory Assistant working under the direct supervision of medical practitioners or laboratory personnel in both an inpatient or an outpatient setting, you collect blood specimens, label specimens labeling, preserve, process,Ā transportĀ and store toĀ facilitateĀ the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.Ā Ā

Your EverydayĀ
AssistĀ medical technologists and other lab staff with procedural set up, specimen plating, slide staining,Ā etcĀ
Label,Ā processĀ and distribute specimens according to department standards.Ā Ā
Set up lab testing and/orĀ procedureĀ for medical technologists to read.Ā Ā
Perform laboratory testing.Ā
Respond to specimen receipt via the pneumatic tube system or specimen drop-off, deliver to departmentĀ sectionsĀ and appropriately match specimens received with orders in the LIS, and enter collection information.Ā
Maintain the rejection log withĀ appropriate communicationĀ documentation.Ā Ā
Provide clerical duties, retrieve laboratoryĀ resultsĀ and fax to the office/unit as appropriate.Ā Ā
Scan necessary documents into the hospital information system asĀ appropriate.Ā
Check instruments and assigned benches forĀ appropriate reagentsĀ and supply levels, replenishing when necessary andĀ notifyĀ appropriate person/teamĀ of low inventory items.Ā Ā
Record receipt of supplies, verify supplies delivered to the department, document receipt in the departmentās supply logbook, and label incoming supplies with received date prior to stocking.Ā
Monitor reagentĀ expirationĀ dates, notifyĀ appropriate personĀ of any expired tubes or supplies, any item found to be defective, contaminated or otherwise unacceptable.Ā
AssistĀ with specimen collection, determineĀ appropriate specimenĀ collection requirements and techniques for the tests requested, and the amount of specimenĀ required.Ā

High School Diploma/GED or 1 year ofĀ directly relatedĀ experience required.Ā Ā Ā
American Heart Association BLS certification.Ā
