Summary

The Auditor protects the trust our congregation places in Southeast. This role creates and carries out a detailed system to ensure all major risks of the church are identified and analyzed on an annual basis, ensures compliance with best practices and applicable regulations, supports our staff, recommends improvements, and champions our mission.

What You Will Be Doing:

Prepare an annual audit plan; organize and carry out the plan.
Review systems, procedures, compliance policies, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations, and report on findings.
Administer the church-wide risk assessment annually and ensure audit work aligns with its results.
Make recommendations to the Elders and Audit Committee on the systems and procedures to be reviewed, and provide opinions on the internal controls of the church.
Communicate to the Elders and Audit Committee how the policies, programs, and activities of the church are performing.
Work in conjunction with independent accounting firms and other consultants; execute fieldwork as directed.
Travel domestically and overseas occasionally to audit Missions partners and vet missionaries, and attend training and conferences relevant to continued learning.

What We Are Looking For:

Thorough knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), procedures and practices, financial records and transactions, as well as auditing standards (GAAS).
Knowledge of state laws, regulations, and federal compliance requirements — including compliance issues related to the church’s ECFA certification — and the ability to understand and apply them.
Ability to identify problems, analyze risk, collect data, establish facts, test and draw valid conclusions, and determine and investigate fraudulent activity.
Experience with computerized accounting and IT systems; able to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and work with abstract and concrete variables.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present concise oral and written reports; a willingness to pursue new auditing techniques and track legislative changes and developments as they affect charities.
Highly relational, self-driven, and a connector — able to work unsupervised, sustain healthy working relationships with other staff, and introduce people to Jesus and one another.

Our Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of 5 years of related audit experience, including experience with non-profit entities and boards; CPA, CIA, or CFE preferred.
A flexible schedule, with the ability to work some weekends and evenings on a regular basis.
