Take ownership of your workspace by keeping the yard clean, safe, and organized.   What You’ll Do As a Yard Associate, you will play an important role in delivering a great customer experience while helping keep our lumberyard safe, organized, and running efficiently. You will assist customers and team members by loading and unloading building materials, preparing orders for delivery or pickup, maintaining inventory, and ensuring the yard is clean and well-organized. Whether you're helping a contractor load materials for a jobsite or stocking inventory for the next delivery, you'll help ensure our customers receive the quality service and products they've come to expect from Bliffert Lumber. This hands-on position requires a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.   Material Handling & Order Fulfillment Work with Dispatch or the store manager to keep up with the flow of the day, keeping loads pulled and ready to be loaded onto trucks as they return for their next runs. Load and unload trucks and bunking materials correctly. Receive and pull orders and credit returns with a high degree of accuracy. Verify that incoming materials are inspected, checked for damage, and counted for accuracy. Ensure deliveries are consistent with purchase orders in quantity and quality prior to accepting delivery, unloading products, or loading trucks.   Customer Service & Communication Maintain control over and assist walk-in, pick-up retail, and business-to-business customers. Recognize customer satisfaction and dissatisfaction with materials being loaded, and work proactively to resolve customer problems on the spot. Communicate effectively with other store personnel, managers, and customers. Provide outstanding customer service in every interaction to represent the store positively.   Yard Operations & Equipment Perform general organization and housekeeping/landscaping of the yard to keep operations running smoothly. Operate power tools and saws safely to make rough cuts when required. Utilize basic computer skills to support daily yard activities. Follow established procedures and work to make them more efficient. Work well independently and collaborate productively in a team environment.   Safety & Compliance Prioritize safety always, actively helping to keep the lumberyard safe, clean, and organized. Lift and handle heavy materials up to 75 lbs. frequently in a consistently safe manner. Carry out other reasonable directives, responsibilities, and activities as assigned by management, which may change with or without notice. Help in the other two yards as necessary to support company operations.   Qualifications Knowledge: Solid understanding of building materials is preferred. Technical Skills: Ability to read and use measuring materials, understand basic math, and possess basic computer skills. Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 75 lbs. frequently in a consistently safe manner, working in an active, hands-on outdoor setting. Licensing: Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Equipment: Forklift experience is preferred, with forklift certification taking preference.
