Job Title:                   Registered Nurse

 

Department:              Clinical Services/Nursing Service

 

Reports To:               Director of Nursing

 

FLSA Status:             Non-Exempt

 

 

SUMMARY

Provides prescribed medicaltreatment and personal care services to patients in the Main or SatelliteClinic settings by performing the following duties as well as any other duties assignedwithin the scope of practice of a registered nurse:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES includes the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Explains procedures andtreatments to patients to gain cooperation and ensure patient understanding.

 

Responds to life savingsituations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.

 

Prepares rooms, sterileinstruments, equipment and supplies for minor surgical or other procedures.

 

Keeps all work areas andtreatment areas clean and neat.

 

Participates in department orunit quality improvement activities.

 

Triages patients as appropriateand encourages health promotion and wellness concepts.

 

Takes and records patients’ vitalsigns, dresses wounds and alcohol rubs.  

 

Applies compresses and ice bags.

 

Observes patients and reportsadverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.

 

Administers specified medication,orally or by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, and notes time and amounton patients’ charts.

 

Administers immunizations asordered and indicated.

 

Interprets physician’sinstructions to patients.

 

Keeps records of vital statisticsand other pertinent data of patients.

 

Makes sure 02 tank is full at alltimes, nebulizer machine is available and working.

 

Prepares forms and requisitionfor tests to be performed.

 

Makes sure exam rooms are readyto receive next patient.

 

Assists patients and providers asneeded.

 

Informs patients of diseaseprocesses and life time management.

 

Inventories, monitors andrequisitions supplies. Ensures all treatment rooms, emergency carts and officesare appropriately stocked.

 

Completes, monitors and followsup on referrals for any assigned physician/provider or as instructed byDirector of Nursing.

 

Works with the WIC Program toassure a smooth operation of the department in the absence of the WICCoordinator. Ensures that all certifications are appropriate and in compliancewith the State of Mississippi rules and regulations as it applies to the WICProgram.

 

Works under the directsupervision of the Director of Nursing or Physician/Provider at all times.

 

Annual evaluation will beconducted by the Supervisor with weight value of 65% from a Physician/NursePractitioner and 35% based on overall teamwork with nurses, staff, etc.

There are no supervisoryresponsibilities associated with this position.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree or equivalentfrom a two-year college or technical school; six months to one year ofexperience practicing as a registered nurse.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehendfacility policies, procedure instructions, simple instructions, shortcorrespondence, and memos.  Ability towrite simple correspondence.  Ability toeffectively present information as well as provide education in one-on-one andsmall group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of theorganization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract,multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, commonfractions, and decimals.  Ability tocompute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practicalproblems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where onlylimited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and carry out detailedinstructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. 

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid RN licensein the State of Mississippi.  Must have avalid Mississippi driver’s license and adequate transportation.
