Direct Support Professional / Transportation Aide (DSP/TA)

We are seeking compassionate and reliable Direct Support Professionals / Transportation Aides (DSP/TA) to support individuals with developmental disabilities in our Day Program. This role combines hands-on support with safe transportation, ensuring individuals are supported, respected, and able to participate fully in daily activities.

Position Overview

DSP/TAs are permanently assigned to a Day Program location and are responsible for transporting individuals safely to and from the program and community activities, while also providing personal care, skill development, and advocacy throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in a Day Program setting.

• Safely transport individuals and/or staff using agency vehicles, including 4–6 passenger buses, cars, and minivans, as assigned.

• Ensure passenger safety at all times, including proper wheelchair securement and adherence to agency driving policies.

• Assist individuals with personal care, hygiene, physical care, and overall well-being.

• Support daily living skills such as personal hygiene, food preparation, housekeeping, laundry, and shopping.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly program environment, free from hazards.

• Observe and report changes in individuals’ physical condition, behavior, or environment to supervisory or nursing staff.

• Advocate for and support individuals at the Day Program, in the community, and during medical or recreational outings while maintaining confidentiality.

• Properly position individuals for comfort and safety; use mechanical lifts and adaptive equipment as trained.

• Participate in the implementation of Individual Service Plans (ISP) and Comprehensive Functional Assessments (CFA).

• Document services, progress, and observations accurately using electronic records.

• Assist with fire safety training and safely evacuate individuals as needed.

• Apply required training, including:

  • Medication Administration / G-Tube (as applicable)

  • CPR and First Aid

  • SCIP-R (Strategies for Crisis Intervention & Prevention)

• Report immediately any suspicion of abuse, neglect, or mistreatment in accordance with OPWDD regulations.

• Assist with household and program tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, light maintenance, and seasonal duties (e.g., snow removal).

• Perform bed checks, safety rounds, and repositioning as required by individual care plans.

• Participate in crisis management and incident reporting when necessary.

• Perform other duties related to program operations as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.

• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.

• Ability to safely operate agency vehicles, including passenger buses and vans.

• Ability to assist individuals with physical needs, including lifting and repositioning with proper training.

• Compassionate, dependable, and team-oriented.

• Willingness to complete required OPWDD and agency trainings.
