Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARYĀ 

The Float Medical Assistant provides support to our patients and physicians in all clinical settings. This position will require travel due to changes in assigned location. The focus of the Float MA is to provide support to the clinics in need to ensure we are providing the best patient care. This role requires a strong individual with a positive attitude and solid background in the clinical setting.Ā 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Ā 

  • Assist physician in clinical office setting to ensure patient careĀ 

  • Triage patients and provide assistance during in office proceduresĀ 

  • Obtain vital signs accurately, understand normal vs. abnormal, and the escalation processĀ 

  • Collect, label and document lab specimensĀ 

  • Obtain documents from various EHR systems for results and reportsĀ 

  • Schedule interventions as directed such as imagining, surgeries, labs, etc.Ā 

  • Obtain prior authorizations when needed for tests and/or surgeriesĀ 

  • Send referrals as directed and maintaingood communication with community partnersĀ 

  • Communicate with patient’s care team when needed (i.e. new orders for skilled nursing facility/hospital)Ā 

  • Triage patient phone calls and communicate provider instructions accuratelyĀ 

  • Provide patient education for tests, pre/post-surgical care, medications, and other patient concernsĀ 

  • Contact patients regarding test results as directedĀ 

  • Contact pharmacies regarding medication orders/changes etc.Ā 

  • Documentation in EHR of all patient careĀ 

  • Maintain adequate stock of medications and suppliesĀ 

  • Keep patient rooms and nurse station cleanĀ 

  • Sterilize instrumentsĀ 

  • Perform other related duties as assignedĀ

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSĀ 

  • Current LPN or current Medical Assistant License is preferredĀ 

  • Maintain Quality OSHA Controls and HIPAA complianceĀ 

  • Experience in charting into an electronic health record (eClinicalWorks experience is preferred)Ā 

  • Experience in Microsoft programs (Outlook and Word)Ā 

  • Ability to quickly learn common medications used in practice (name, action, and side effects)Ā 

  • Ability to learn common surgeries and recognize/triage the complications associated with themĀ 

  • General understanding of sterile technique, surgical equipment, and human anatomyĀ

  • Ability to assist and support patients in transfer from exam rooms, out of wheelchairs, onto exam tables, during the exam process, etc.Ā
