What You'll Do

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will:

  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, grooming, meal preparation, nutrition, laundry, housekeeping, and daily routines.
  • Support individuals in developing and maintaining independent living skills and personal responsibility.
  • Assist with medication routines in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Encourage participation in community, recreational, educational, and social activities.
  • Help individuals develop meaningful relationships and community connections.
  • Provide guidance, supervision, and positive role modeling to build confidence, independence, and life skills.
  • Monitor for signs of crisis or behavioral concerns and respond appropriately using approved interventions.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and supportive residential environment.
  • Observe and report changes in physical, emotional, or behavioral health.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency standards, HIPAA requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, nurses, clinicians, family members, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in team meetings, ongoing training, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Delaware Driver’s License
  • Minimum three (3) years of acceptable driving history
  • Ability to meet organizational driving requirements

Preferred

  • Experience supporting individuals with behavioral health challenges
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Experience working with mental health conditions
  • Experience in residential or human services settings

Additional Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills; Microsoft Office experience is a plus
  • Commitment to person-centered and recovery-oriented care

Schedule

  • Full-Time, Part-Time, and PRN opportunities available
  • Day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts may be available
  • Community outings and transportation responsibilities required
  • Residential and community-based work settings
  • Active engagement throughout the workday
  • May be required to respond to behavioral health or crisis situations

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach frequently
  • Ability to assist with daily living activities and mobility support
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull as required
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations
  • Ability to participate in approved crisis intervention techniques when necessary
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
