Global Merchant & Network Services brings together American Express' merchant and network-related businesses. This includes the management of our relationships across the globe with both the millions of merchants who accept American Express, as well as our partners in countries and territories that deliver card acceptance, issuance and innovation.Â

The American Express business has two core types of customers. The Card Members that use our cards to make purchases, and the businesses that accept them. In Global Merchant & Network Services, we primarily focus on the businesses that accept our cards. We bring together the businesses that lead and evolve the company’s relationships with the millions of merchants around the world that accept American Express, as well as the team that runs the company’s payment network and leads bank partnerships globally. This is an exciting time for GMNS. We are expanding global acceptance of our cards, driving greater usage of our network, using our modern capabilities to bring together broader revenue streams, and driving innovation both in-house and with partners. - We have 135+ million cards in force, that perform 12 billion transactions per year and supply more than $1.5 trillion in network volumeÂ

The US Merchant Marketing, Global Marketing Execution & Analytics (UMGEA) team is responsible for leveraging marketing and analytics capabilities to drive sustainable growth through the customer, partner, product and business insights that inform the merchant value proposition, channel strategy and investment optimization, while leveraging a full range of enterprise assets and partnerships for GMNS customers and ensuring we remain compliant as a network. This internship will offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the marketing vertical within UMGEA by gaining hands on experience in strategic analysis, market research, and project management. Â
This position will be based in New York, NY
Responsibilities
How will you make an impact in this role?Â
- Analyze internal and external data and realize growth opportunities to help businesses improve performance and drive growth.Â
- Analyze performance indicators and internal/external data to help identify trends, improve performance and drive growthÂ
- Assist in the creation of marketing strategies and plans, including segmentation, targeting, and positioning strategies.Â
- Develop reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings, recommendations, and strategic insights to stakeholders.Â
- Develop relationships with a variety of internal and external partners.Â
- Share and leverage standard processes and provide consultancy to team.Â
- Plan end-to-end marketing initiatives or other customer-focused initiatives; develop and implement tests to measure efficiency.Â
- Conduct research on market trends, customer behavior, and competitive landscape to inform strategic marketing decisions.Â
Qualifications
Minimum QualificationsÂ
- Currently enrolled in a full-time Master’s degree program.Â

Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Master’s degree candidates with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.Â
- Passion for customer marketing, payments innovation, and new technology trendsÂ
- Ability to conceptualize and sell ideasÂ
- Independent thinker who’s organized, has excellent attention to detail, and can multi-taskÂ
- Strong analytical, problem-solving/quantitative skillsÂ
- Willing to try new things and share fresh perspectivesÂ
- Be proficient with analytical and presentation tools, including Excel and PowerPointÂ
- Excellent written and verbal communication skillsÂ
