Summary:Ā 

TheĀ ChiefĀ ClaimsĀ Officer, Argo GroupĀ reports directly to the ChiefĀ ClaimsĀ Officer,Ā ClearbrookĀ located in New York City andĀ manages the entire ClaimsĀ function for Argo.Ā As a member of the executiveĀ managementĀ team, the Chief Claims Officer, ArgoĀ GroupĀ is responsible forĀ the overall strategic direction, executiveĀ leadership,Ā and management of all the Argo Group’s claims operations.Ā This includesĀ Casualty,Ā Operations, Property,Ā Reinsurance,Ā Surety,Ā and Workers’ CompensationĀ Claims.Ā The position managesĀ fiveĀ direct reports andĀ approximatelyĀ 150Ā indirect reports.Ā Ā The Chief Claims Officer, Argo GroupĀ collaboratesĀ with the other ArgoĀ GroupĀ executives inĀ Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance, Risk, and LegalĀ formulating both strategic plans and policy to meet group profitability and growthĀ objectives.Ā 

The Chief Claims Officer, Argo GroupĀ provides claim leadership and direction to the Senior Management ofĀ allĀ the Argo Group claims operations with a focus on supporting the consistent execution of claims functions and maintenance of operational excellence.Ā 

This position can be based in any of the following locations: Chicago, IL,Ā Los Angeles, CA,Ā New York City, NY, Omaha, NE,Ā orĀ Richmond, VA.

This is a 100% in-office position. Candidates must be able to work on-site at a designated company office during standard business hours.Ā

Essential Responsibilities:Ā 

  • Partners with key Argo Group executives to develop strategic and operational plans aimed at achieving both growth and profitability targets. Works collaboratively with representatives of the corporate actuarial team.Ā 

  • Strategically manages teams led by People Managers to provide customers and partners with strong claims service and technical capabilities.Ā This includes sophisticated coverage analysis,Ā timelyĀ claims resolution, and strong negotiation of settlements.Ā 

  • Leads,Ā directs,Ā and has leadership accountability forĀ establishingĀ claims and that there are performanceĀ objectivesĀ and performance metrics in place at all organizational levels to both support and meet setĀ objectives.Ā 

  • Drives continuous improvement through initiatives involvingĀ the employees,Ā processes,Ā and technology.Ā 

  • IdentifiesĀ and implements claims best practices in all operating units for proper and consistent claimsĀ performanceĀ  toĀ include management responsibility for claims compliance (OFAC, Medicare Reporting, Adjuster Licensing, SOX etc.) and achieving theĀ appropriate financialĀ outcomes.Ā 

  • Effectuates claims resolution and process improvement while maximizing cost effectiveness and educating the business managers/leaders as to claims drivers and trends.Ā 

  • Ability toĀ establishĀ working relationships with a variety of types of claims vendors and to negotiate the vendor contractsĀ toĀ maximize the financial benefit to Argo Group and its customers.Ā 

  • ExpertiseĀ in claims litigation management.Ā Must have a provenĀ track recordĀ of successful outcomes in this regard and be able toĀ establishĀ and maintain an enterprise-wideĀ a specializedĀ litigation managementĀ unit.Ā 

  • Provides guidance and direction to claims managers and professionals through a continuous process of management involvement.Ā 

  • Supports the claims selection process toĀ retainĀ claimsĀ professionals that consistentlyĀ demonstrateĀ appropriate technicalĀ expertise,Ā maturity,Ā and a professional commitment to excellence.Ā

The successful candidate will haveĀ demonstrated claimsĀ technical and managementĀ expertiseĀ coupled with an effective personal style and a ā€œteam playerā€ orientation.Ā Ā The Chief Claims Officer, Argo GroupĀ must be someone who can work collaboratively with other members of an executive management team, deal effectively with individuals of diverse professional backgrounds, and have consistent credibility both inside and outside of Argo Group. A career history that underscores continuous advancement either with an insurance organization or the insurance industry is also a requirement for the successful candidate.Ā

Qualifications / Experience Required:Ā 

The ideal candidate for this position will be an accomplished and highly capable insurance professional withĀ significantĀ experienceĀ inĀ a seniorĀ management commercial property and casualtyĀ claimsĀ role within an organization with aĀ full-scaleĀ domestic orientation.Ā He/she must have highly effective leadership skills and a consistent record of superior results in leading a successful commercial claims organization with operationsĀ locatedĀ throughout the United StatesĀ andĀ Bermuda.Ā

The successful candidate must have a thorough understanding of property and casualty financial and actuarial concepts and requirements and their influence on the claims reserving process andĀ financialĀ outcomes.Ā He/she must haveĀ experienceĀ inĀ  designingĀ and implementing claims technology solutions. The successful candidate willĀ possessĀ an analytic and metric driven focus combined with strong strategy development and execution skills. He/she must be able to develop and provide corporate presentations to senior and executive claims management that are based upon metric-driven analysis and conclusions.Ā

  • Skilled in coverage, liability andĀ damagesĀ analysisĀ possessesĀ a comprehensive knowledge of the litigation management process, relevant caseĀ regulationĀ and statutory law.Ā

The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will beĀ commensurateĀ with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ basedĀ on the cost ofĀ laborĀ in that location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonusĀ and long-term incentivesĀ based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.Ā
