BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a skilled Licensed Veterinary Technician to come work alongside our board-certified Ophthalmologist.

​This role offers the opportunity to develop specialized technical skills through hands-on involvement in ophthalmic diagnostics, anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, and post-operative patient care. Ophthalmology is a highly rewarding specialty where technicians play a direct role in restoring comfort, preserving vision, and improving quality of life for patients.

Schedule: Weekday shifts, 4x10s

Pay: $27.00 - $51.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

Ophthalmology Technician Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam 

  • Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.) 

  • Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries 

  • Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses) 

  • Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery 

  • For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.) 

  • Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies 

  • Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care
