The New York Post delivers news, sports, pop culture and entertainment with unmatched speed, attitude and authority, reaching more than 90 million unique viewers each month. With a 225 year legacy and a fast moving digital first newsroom, the Post operates across print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce, and continues to define the city’s most talked about stories.

The New York Post is seeking a full-time Reporter (Tuesday-Saturday) who can thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

NOTE: The shift for this position is Tuesday-Friday 5:30am-1:30pm EST, Saturday 7am-3pm EST.

 

The Reporter will take the lead on major news stories, no matter the topic, and ensure The Post has the crucial elements covered while working to break our own lines. They will be at the forefront of delivering timely and accurate information to our audience. This role is pivotal in keeping our readers informed, engaged, and up-to-date on unfolding events.

Responsibilities:

● Write and report multiple stories per day in a fast-paced breaking news environment

● Pitch viral and trending news stories to be written in The Post’s signature snappy style

● Move swiftly in breaking news situations, filing real-time updates while closely monitoring the competition to keep our story fresh

● Edit news stories and collaborate with reporters to refine and strengthen story angles

● Collaborate with colleagues on originally reported news stories across all areas of coverage, including but not limited to local crime, local politics, court cases, human interest, national stories

● Vet story assignments and facts before publishing

The ideal candidate will have/be:

● At least 3 years of experience working in a competitive newsroom, preferably at a digital publication

● Excellent writing skills and strong reporting chops

● Strong news gathering skills and experience with social media platforms in order to quickly confirm information during live news events

● A voracious appetite for news and current events

● An understanding of how to navigate court documents and the criminal justice system a major plus

● The ability to spot a potentially viral story from any corner of the globe and quickly turn it into a great read

● The ability to pick out a compelling angle to a story not necessarily covered by other publications

● Strong news gathering skills and experience with social media platforms in order to quickly confirm information during live news events; think digital first

Note: This role will be expected to report on-site 5 days per week.

Base Pay Range: $70,000 - $80,000
