Our mission is to empower young adults to reach their full potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment. At The Door, youth can access health care and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal assistance, college preparation services, career development, housing supports, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals – all for free and under one roof. By providing participants with our suite of integrated services, we seek to provide any motivated young person with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to successfully transition to adulthood.   The Door’s Supportive Housing Program provides 95 units of permanent supported housing at two residential locations in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Residents of The Door’s Supportive Housing are young adults aged 18 - 26 at risk of homelessness, young people aging out of foster care, young people with mental illness, and young parents. The Resident Life Coach will assist Residents in their successful navigation of independent young-adult life, specifically, personal and educational/job-related concerns.   Responsibilities: Act as a primary service provider for approximately 20 residents for full length of stay. This will include completing ongoing needs assessments and collaborative work plans to help determine the needs, interests, and goals of each resident Work with residents and their previous case managers and other collateral supports (if applicable) to develop suggested individual service plans to meet initial and intermediate goals toward establishing and maintaining successful transitions to independence and stabilization Be available (with emergency backup) to the assigned residents for any needs ranging from crisis resolution to daily life skills management help Be available for evening and weekend shifts with advance notice. Connect young people with any services/support that they might need and serve as liaison to those resources Motivate each young person to strive for independence through the completion of all educational/career/mental healthcare goals Complete all reporting requirements Escort tenants to appointments Facilitate groups and workshops Demonstrate ability to work effectively and creatively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team Representing The Door at outside events and functions Perform other duties as defined by Assistant Program Director   Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, master's in social work or related field preferred Minimum of 3 years of experience in case management with adolescents, utilizing positive youth development and harm reduction principles, including working with diverse at-risk youth populations such as LGBTQ, homeless and mentally ill Knowledge of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people Prior supportive housing experience and working with youth with significant mental illness, is strongly preferred Knowledge of social service systems and resources as they relate to The Door’s urban youth population Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated ability in developing innovative adolescent treatment modalities and group facilitation skills Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Mandarin preferred   Hours: 35 hours per week; may include evenings and/or weekends with advance notice Annual salary: $50,000-55,000   Multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
