JOB TITLE:  

Shelter Program Director

SUMMARY: 

Directs, supervises, plans and implements the programmatic and administrative operations of the program; directs staff in implementation of Sanctuary plans.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: 

This position reports to the VP of Behavioral Health Services 

SCHEDULE: 

10AM - 6PM, flexibility in schedule to include some evening and weekends based on program need. 

LOCATION: Jamaica, Queens NY 

 POSITION TYPE: 

Fulltime - requires flexibility to cover shifts in the event of staffing shortages or emergencies 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Oversee daily program operations and administration, including case management, employment, housing placements, healthcare compliance, recreation, food service, security, maintenance, staffing, safety, financial management, and maintenance of the physical environment to ensure residents’ physical, emotional, and social needs are met.

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and provide leadership to staff; coordinate professional development opportunities and ensure accurate, timely completion of responsibilities and program goals.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor person-centered programming, direct supports, and service plans that address residents’ daily living skills, resource management, healthcare, advocacy, sanctuary rules, and overall engagement while ensuring services remain effective and relevant.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and program requirements; manage critical incident follow-up, analyze program data for continuous improvement, and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies and organizations through meetings and community engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Business Management, Humanities, Psychology, Human Services, and 2 years of experience 

  • Knowledge of Human Resources policies.

  • Attention to detail

  • Good record keeping skills

  • Outstanding communication skills for working with operations staff.

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain professionalism and build positive relationships with staff, clients, and customers.

  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, resolve routine issues, and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Friendly, service-oriented, detail-oriented, and professional demeanor with the ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress, fast-paced environments.

  • Team-oriented with a positive, “can-do” attitude and commitment to maintaining a productive and professional work atmosphere.
