ABOUT THE DEPARTMENTĀ 

Supplier Strategy & Operations (S2O)Ā leads the optimization of purchases across the Museum to sustain an environment of world-classĀ Ā valueĀ throughĀ strategicĀ thinking,Ā efficientĀ IntakeĀ to Pay (I2P) process, technologyĀ integrationsĀ and exceptional customer care. ThisĀ isĀ accomplishedĀ by utilizing industry bestĀ practices, which manage risk and administer sourcing functionality to proactively direct buying activities and protect the interests of the Museum. Through this process,Ā S2O:Ā 

  • Leads The Met in embracing a culture where sourcing and negotiationsĀ are standardizedĀ across the organization in a center-ledĀ model;Ā 
  • Acts as a financial steward and consistently, proactively delivers savings & cost efficiencies back to TheĀ Met;Ā 
  • Is known as the Subject Matter ExpertsĀ regardingĀ strategicĀ sourcing;Ā 
  • Oversees Supplier Relationship Management and Supplier Diversity &Ā Inclusion;Ā 
  • EnsuresĀ our business processes are sustainable, manage risk and administer the right level of control and efficiency.Ā 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIESĀ 

The Capital ProjectsĀ Sourcing LeadĀ is responsible forĀ leading sourcing, contracting, and supplier management activities which support construction, facilities, infrastructure, andĀ otherĀ capital projects. This roleĀ partnersĀ with project managers, facilities, design, engineering, and finance stakeholders to deliver best-valueĀ sourcingĀ solutions while ensuring cost control, risk mitigation, compliance, andĀ timelyĀ quality-based project delivery.Ā Ā The role also supportsĀ reporting, process improvement, and other strategic sourcing priorities as business needs require.Ā

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:Ā 

  • DriveĀ sourcingĀ best practices to maximize ROI on engaged spend.Ā 
  • Develop and implement long- and short-range sourcing strategies for complex and high-risk items.Ā 
  • Develop andĀ maintainĀ qualified supplier pipelines and contingency options for criticalĀ tradesĀ and services.Ā 
  • MonitorĀ constructionĀ market conditions, supplier capacity, labor and material escalation, and critical lead times.Ā Ā 
  • Drive category-specific business intelligence needs and share information withĀ stakeholdersĀ as necessary.Ā 
  • Effectively communicate and collaborateĀ with the requesting departments to clearly understand their requirements,Ā providingĀ early input into the sourcing process,Ā researchĀ and recommendĀ supplyĀ options and source candidates.Ā 
  • Independently manage large RFP projects by working with internal stakeholders and suppliers per the defined process, from pre-qualification of suppliers, bidder communications, project tracking, bid leveling analysis, selection recommendation, negotiation and contracting, supplier onboarding,Ā and post award supplier management,Ā to achieveĀ best value considering cost, quality, schedule, service, and risk.Ā 
  • Contract administration support, change-order review and negotiation, supplier performance, commercial issue resolution, cost and schedule risk, and project closeout.Ā 
  • Think strategically about projectĀ objectivesĀ andĀ identifyĀ opportunities to maximize work productivity.Ā 
  • Assess,Ā highlightĀ and manage risk for assigned commodities / projects and develop actionable solutions.Ā 
  • Validate fair value of incumbentĀ purchasesĀ through benchmark studies. Recommend alternate sources asĀ appropriate consideringĀ attributes such as service levels, performance records, industry recognition, and peer recommendations.Ā 
  • Take remedial actions when suppliers are not performing as committed. Ensure that itemsĀ are deliveredĀ onĀ time and withĀ theĀ expected level of quality.Ā 
  • Participate in meetings with end users, and understand theirĀ urgency, align solutions plans withĀ project priorities.Ā Ā Ā 
  • CollaborateĀ with stakeholders andĀ workĀ with suppliers to respond with creative solutions to meetĀ deadlines.Ā 
  • Overcome barriers that inhibit diverse suppliersĀ from competing,Ā thus maximizingĀ diversity spend whereĀ viableĀ including sub-tier spend toĀ be consideredĀ in the sourcing process.Ā 
  • Generate ad hocĀ and scheduledĀ work reports, provide periodic updates for management on activities and savings.Ā 
  • Ensure that sourcing practices andĀ requesters' actionsĀ comply withĀ the standard operating policies and procedures in all aspects of the source to pay process. Provide guidance toĀ requesters asĀ appropriate.Ā

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:Ā 

  • A recognized 4-year degree at an accredited institution (or equivalent)Ā 

  • 7+ years of experience in strategic sourcingĀ including:Ā market research, supplier evaluation and selection, stakeholder and project management, negotiation, RFx solicitation,Ā riskĀ managementĀ and post award supplier management,Ā ensuringĀ theĀ integrity ofĀ sourcingĀ process.Ā Ā This should includeĀ 5+Ā years’ experienceĀ sourcingĀ design/constructionĀ projectsĀ valued at $1M+Ā withĀ strongĀ knowledge of all aspects of capital projects,Ā includingĀ construction, architecturalĀ services,Ā consultants,Ā andĀ contractors.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Possess a deep understanding of sourcing best practices and insights related to capital projects including industry knowledge, market operations, keyĀ providersĀ and related supplyĀ chainsĀ 

  • Experience in ERP platform (Workday, SAP, etc.) and Sourcing and Construction management tools a plusĀ 

  • Self-starterĀ with ability toĀ handleĀ and prioritize multiple projects, and to drive results independently and asĀ aĀ member of theĀ S2OĀ teamĀ 

  • Highly collaborative and relationship driven-Ā proven ability toĀ build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders andĀ suppliersĀ 

  • Analytical, withĀ aĀ solidĀ proficiencyĀ in Microsoft Office  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  

  • Experience with contract and price negotiation, as well as supplier management experience.  

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, changing priorities, and tight deadlines in a complexĀ environmentĀ 

  • Experience presenting recommendations and sourcing strategies to senior leadership.Ā 

  • Ability to assess and evaluate situationsĀ effectivelyĀ 

COMPENSATION RANGE:

  • Pay Rate: $135,000 - $145,000 / Annually

Location Requirements

At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. ā€œCommuting distanceā€ means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the ā€œTri-state and PAā€ areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
