Job DetailsJob Location: Queens, NY 11434Salary Range: $20.00 - $20.00 HourlyThe Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities. We are looking for a part-time Outreach Coordinator who will be responsible for leading efforts in recruiting and engaging youth in Beacon programs and activities, as well as providing them with a range of services according to their needs, strengths, interests, and challenges. Under the direction of the Beacon Director, the Outreach Coordinator will oversee the recruitment and retention of hard-to-reach youth and young adults by engaging in outreach partnerships with other CBO's, attend community events, meetings, while connecting youth with wraparound support services, and providing them with mentorship programs to keep them engaged in the Beacon and in school. Location: Goldie Maple Academy Beacon 365 Beach 57th St - Serving Far Rockaway Peninsula QualificationsMajor Duties & Responsibilities: Plan and execute extensive outreach efforts to chronically absent and/or disconnected youth by way of community outreach, contact with local schools, faith-based and community-based organizations, human service providers, and other community stakeholders and leaders. Conduct relationship-building with local community groups, churches, schools, public housing resident associations, parent groups and nonprofits to support diverse, innovative and successful recruitment of diverse participants, including at-risk, out-of-school and court-involved youth. Conduct street work and street outreach, and promote the visibility and accessibility of the PAL Beacon beyond the school campus. Coordinate with the Leadership team to ensure appropriate referrals and linkages for participants to co-located and referral-based wraparound services. Provide mentorship to youth to encourage them to attend Beacon program and attend school. Maintain effective and productive working relationships with program managers and staff involved in the service planning and provision process. Help ensure that communication and guidance from program staff to youth participants are carried out professionally. Submit reports to the Beacon Director and/or PAL management as required. Attend ongoing training and other technical assistance or professional development activities identified by Beacon Director and/or PAL management. Additional Responsibilities: Organize and/or participate in external special events to promote PAL’s mission and image, cultivate broad relationships, and generate broad support. Convene meetings with Beacon staff, volunteers/interns, program participants, parents, community partners, and other stakeholders as needed to assist in program delivery, communicate established policies, and promote a positive environment. Maintain a binder to keep record of all data collected All other relevant duties as delegated by the Program Director.  Skills/Knowledge Required: High school diploma required. Associate’s degree or higher in a relevant human services field preferred. Knowledge of and history with Far Rockaway community required. Bilingual preferred. 1-2 years of street outreach, youth development or other relevant experience required. Demonstrated skills and competency in culturally relevant approaches and youth development. Non-judgmental approach and ability to empathize with others. Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining community partnerships. Experience working in an ethnically, culturally and racially diverse environment. Ability to collaborate as part of a team. Leadership skills in conflict intervention, negotiation, decision-making, and delegation. Dynamic energy, able to multi-task and negotiate multiple requests. Committed to working toward positive community change. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to speak effectively and persuasively to staff, members, parents, groups, and community residents. Ability to work evenings, early mornings and/or weekend hours as may be required periodically. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Salary: 20.00 Per Hour
