Job DetailsJob Location: Bronx - Bronx, NY 10457Salary Range: $19.00 - $25.00 HourlyTitle: Activity Specialist  Reports to: Program Director    Department: Programs  Location: Brooklyn, NY / Bronx, NY Classification: Part - Time  About the Organization: Children of Promise, NYC’s (CPNYC) reimagines a just society that values the purpose of every child impacted by mass incarceration and removes barriers to create opportunities for children to thrive and achieve their full potential. CPNYC’s mission is to support and advocate for the children of incarcerated parents while speaking out against root causes that affect the communities we serve, including systemic racism, poverty. and bias in our nation’s criminal justice system.  CPNYC has successfully developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co-locates a licensed mental health clinic and children's centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx.  CPNYC provides an array of youth development programming and services tailored to each child's individual strengths and challenges and fosters a unique uplifting environment to foster hope and resilience.   Position Overview: Activity Specialists organize, lead, and promote interest in a variety of activities. Instructors utilize and adapt the New York State Arts Learning Standards in order to create an engaging and awarding activity that encourages participation in CPNYC programs. The Activity Specialist will specialist in one of the following areas: Music, Art, Science, SEL, College and Careers, Leadership, STEAM, Technology & AI, and Physical Education & Movement. Essential Job Functions Organize, lead, and promote interest in activities such as SEL, College and Careers, Leadership, STEAM, Technology & AI, and Physical Education & Movement, Art and Dance, Music, or Science. Organize performance groups and culminating events and direct their rehearsals. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet the student’s needs. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of materials and equipment. Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other students, explaining the rules, and encouraging participation. Evaluate activity to determine if they are producing desired results. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project Provide support during the academic / homework hour Promotes positive character development in all youth            QualificationsRequired Knowledge, Skill and Experience Associate Degree Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required Must have experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in the Arts. Must have a passion for CPNYC’s mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development Must be responsible, reliable and punctual. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activity highly preferred Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred as well
