The Arnhold Institute for Global Health at Mount Sinai and the Department of Global Health and Health System Design is seeking an experienced and dedicated leader to serve as the In-Country Executive Director for the AMPATH Nepal partnership.Â
Based in Dhulikhel, Nepal, the In-Country Executive Director for AMPATH Nepal provides strategic, operational, and partnership leadership for the replication of the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) with our partners at Dhulikhel Hospital (DH), Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS), Mount Sinai, and the AMPATH Global Consortium. Together with our partners and Institute leadership, the In-Country Executive Director will work to advance our strategic priorities for the AMPATH Nepal partnership, expand resources, funding, and infrastructure to achieve program objectives, grow care, education, and research engagement, and work to advance and strengthen care systems to address community health needs and priorities in Nepal.Â
Serving as the primary in-country lead, the In-Country Executive Director will work to advance integrated programs in clinical care, education, and research. Working closely with Mount Sinai Departmental leadership, Nepalese institutional partners—including Dhulikhel Hospital and Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences—and the broader AMPATH Consortium, the Executive Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and periodically updating the AMPATH Nepal strategic plan and priorities. The role focuses on building and sustaining high-impact, bi-directional partnerships; expanding faculty and trainee engagement; and fostering a coordinated, long-term platform for global health collaboration aligned with AMPATH’s principles and values. In alignment with these values, the Executive Director is expected to advance initiatives that improve clinical care and access to care, supported by mutually beneficial, collaborative research and educational opportunities.Â
In addition to partnership development, the In-Country Executive Director oversees program execution, resource development, and operational compliance across U.S.- and Nepal-based activities. This includes assisting with fundraising strategy and donor engagement to ensure sustainability; supervising and mentoring faculty, staff, and trainees; implementing partnership agreements; ensuring effective oversight of in-country personnel and programs; and overseeing safety, security, and emergency response coordination; and overseeing administrative, budgetary, and operational program implementation in Nepal. The role also encompasses leadership in grant development and the design and oversight of trainee exchanges and educational initiatives. The In-Country Executive Director is accountable for tracking and reporting on key performance metrics—including funding, participation, scholarly output, and care impact—and for leading annual planning and budgeting processes to support the continued growth and effectiveness of Mount Sinai’s global health efforts in Nepal.
Highly competitive candidates will have a clinical care background focused on delivering care in low-resource settings to underserved communities. Successful candidates will commit to a minimum two-year term of service in Nepal. The selected candidate will be appointed as faculty in the Department of Global Health and Health System Design at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Candidates with multiple clinical and/or academic specialties will also be considered for joint primary or secondary faculty appointment in relevant clinical and/or academic departments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
