REPORTS TO:Â Program Director and/or Assistant Program DirectorÂ
SALARY:Â $20 per hour based on experience and credentialsÂ
DATES:Â School Year September 2026 - June 2027
SCHEDULE:Â Monday - Friday, 2pm - 6pm; Position is performance based and is also contingent on funding availability.
JOB SUMMARY: As part of our Youth Services Department’s vision: all Youth Services Staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership and positive self-image in all young people at all of our Grand Street Settlement sites. Group Leaders during the summer will promote and develop a safe and engaging learning environment for youth. Recreational activities, team building  activities/games, theme based lessons, and trips are integral parts of summer day camp activities.Â
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:Â
- High School diploma a must, college degree preferredÂ
- Candidates who are fluent in Spanish are highly encouraged to apply
- Youth development experience requiredÂ
- Must have experience teaching and designing curriculaÂ
- Previous experience working with diverse young peopleÂ
- High level of proficiency in administrative workÂ
- Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projectsÂ
- High level of proficiency in administrative workÂ
- Three (3) or more years’ experience & expertise working with youth (volunteer experience is acceptable).Â
- Three (3) or more years’ experience coaching, instructing, or facilitating curriculum-based lessons (to youth preferred).Â
- Ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.Â
- Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; 3 Reference Checks; Physical w/ updated TB Test (Fees may apply)Â
- If offered the position, must submit $25 fee for NY State Clearance ReviewÂ
- Valid CPR/AED Pro certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.Â
- Valid First Aid/RTE certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.Â
- Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all students while remaining professional at all times and be able to motivate the students while setting an example in all areas, including responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance and most importantly, professionalism.Â
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Â
TrainingÂ
- Must complete after school trainings as per school- age child care requirementsÂ
Supervise ParticipantsÂ
- Problem solve and intervene directly with youth in groupsÂ
- Maintain adequate staff to camper supervision during all activities and tripsÂ
Facilitate After School ActivitiesÂ
- Design and implement project-based school year curriculumÂ
- Must facilitate group management and activities based on the after school themes
- Work collaboratively with co-workersÂ
- Know and follow daily in-house and trip schedules and proceduresÂ
- Create a camp culture of positive group cohesivenessÂ
Ensure SafetyÂ
- Must be able to supervise a group of children and participate in activities and trips; provide and maintain a safe working environment.Â
- Maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kitsÂ
- Maintain medical and contact information for each camperÂ
- Responsible for maintaining daily log of all incidents/ injuriesÂ
- Prepare attendance reports and other reports as requiredÂ
- Know and adhere to all regulations and procedures outlined in safety planÂ
OtherÂ
- Communicate regularly and appropriately with parentsÂ
- Complete all necessary paperwork that is requiredÂ
- Come to ready to work with a positive attitudeÂ
- Supervise and evaluate youth staffÂ
- Other assignments as requiredÂ
