POSITION TITLE: Group Leader
DEPARTMENT: Youth Services
LOCATION(S): Manhattan - Seward Park (56 Essex Street, New York, New York 10002)
REPORTS TO: Program Director/Assistant Director
SALARY RANGE: $20/hr up to 20hrs/week
DATE: September 2026-June 2027
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 2 pm-6 pm (Candidates are expected to arrive on time before after-school begins. Schedules vary based on program needs.)
JOB SUMMARY: A Group Leader will assist in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all elementary, middle, and/or high school youths at Grand Street Settlement. A Group Leader will also provide competent supervision, develop and facilitate curriculum/activities such as homework help, STEM, health and wellness, performing arts, and literacy.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma a must; college degree preferred
Youth development experience required
Must have experience teaching and designing curricula
Previous experience working with diverse young people ages 5-14 years old
Three (3) or more years' experience & expertise working with youth (volunteer experience is acceptable).
Three (3) or more years' experience coaching, instructing, or facilitating curriculum-based lessons (to youth preferred).
Ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.
Candidate must complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; 3 Reference Checks; Physical w/ updated TB Test (Fees may apply)
Valid CPR/AED Pro certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred.
Valid First Aid/RTE certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred.
Candidates must communicate effectively with all students while remaining professional at all times, motivate students, and set an example in all areas, including responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance, and, most importantly, professionalism.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise Participants
Problem-solve and intervene directly with youth in groups
Maintain adequate staff to supervise campers during all activities and trips
Facilitate Summer Camp Activities
Design and implement project-based School Year curriculum
Must facilitate group management and activities based on the School Year themes
Work collaboratively with co-workers
Know and follow daily in-house and trip schedules and procedures
Create aan after-schoolculture of positive group cohesiveness
Ensure Safety
Must be able to supervise a group of children and participate in activities and trips; provide and maintain a safe working environment.
Maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kits
Maintain medical and contact information for each camper
Responsible for maintaining a daily log of all incidents/ injuries
Prepare attendance reports and other reports as required
Know and adhere to all regulations and procedures outlined in the safety plan
Other
Communicate regularly and appropriately with Leadership Team
Complete all necessary paperwork that is required
Come ready to work with a positive attitude
Supervise and evaluate youth staff
Other assignments as required
