Coatings Technical Service Consultant

Creating essential chemistry that the world needs

At Chemours, chemistry is more than what we make. It is how we help customers solve difficult problems, improve performance and create products that matter. Teflon™ coatings support demanding applications across aerospace, automotive, medical devices, semiconductor manufacturing, energy and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

We are looking for a Coatings Technical Service Consultant who enjoys combining hands-on laboratory work, customer collaboration and practical problem-solving. You will join the global Teflon™ Coatings Technology team at the Chemours Discovery Hub and report to the Global Technology Manager, Coatings.

This is an opportunity to become a trusted technical partner to customers and colleagues, while building deep expertise in fluoropolymer coatings and helping turn market needs into solutions that can be implemented in real manufacturing environments.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Partner with customers: Serve as a primary technical contact for customers, applicators, distributors and commercial teams using Teflon™ liquid and powder coatings.
  • Recommend practical coating solutions: Translate the customer’s substrate, part design, pretreatment, application process, cure capability and performance requirements into clear product and process recommendations.
  • Solve challenging technical problems: Lead structured troubleshooting and failure analysis for coating defects and customer complaints. Coordinate plant, analytical, quality and global technology resources as needed.
  • Work hands-on in the laboratory: Prepare, apply and cure coating samples and panels; evaluate performance; and convert the results into recommendations customers can use.
  • Support trials at customer sites: Participate in qualification trials, line trials, technical audits and on-site troubleshooting. Capture observations, decisions, risks and follow-up actions clearly.
  • Help bring improvements to market: Collaborate with scientists, manufacturing and product teams on product modifications, competitive conversions, raw-material or site changes, scale-up and commercialization readiness.
  • Strengthen distributor capability: Share product updates, application guidance, opportunity reviews and technical training while maintaining effective alignment on customer and channel responsibilities.
  • Build capability across the organization: Create engaging technical presentations and training for customers, distributors, sales colleagues and new team members. Make complex coating science practical and understandable.
  • Connect technical work to business value: Maintain accurate technical and opportunity records, ensure samples include useful handling and application guidance, and help the team focus resources on the opportunities with the greatest impact.
  • Champion responsible chemistry: Work safely and follow all laboratory, environmental, waste, quality and safety requirements. Support laboratory emissions records, equipment registrations and continuous improvement of safe operating practices.

Business Impact:

  • Accelerate conversion of competitive coating systems by demonstrating performance in the customer’s existing process and clearly defining changes needed for implementation.
  • Protect existing business through fast, technically sound response to complaints, supply or manufacturing transitions, and customer qualification questions.
  • Generate market insight by identifying unmet needs, competitive gaps and recurring application problems that can guide portfolio and development priorities.
  • Preserve critical institutional knowledge in coating formulation, application, customer processes and the North American applicator/distributor network.

The following is required for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, materials science, coatings technology or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial coatings, polymer processing, formulation, application engineering, technical service or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose technical problems using customer process information, laboratory data and structured experimentation.
  • Clear, confident communication with customers and cross-functional teams, in writing and in conversation.
  • Ability to work on-site at the Chemours Discovery Hub and travel up to 20% to customer, distributor and manufacturing locations as required.
  • Commitment to safe work, accurate documentation, confidentiality and responsible handling of chemicals and technical information.

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Experience with fluoropolymer coatings, including PTFE, FEP, PFA or ETFE liquid and powder systems.
  • Knowledge of coating preparation and application: cleaning and pretreatment, mixing, filtration, spray equipment, film build, flash-off, curing and defect analysis.
  •  Experience supporting industrial applicators and strategic markets such as medical devices, chemical processing, aerospace, semiconductor, cookware/food equipment or energy.
  • Experience with customer complaint investigation, competitive product replacement, qualification trials and manufacturing or raw-material changes.
  • Familiarity with coating formulation/recipe databases, SDS/TDS content, VOC calculations, product stewardship and CRM opportunity tracking.

Why join us?

  • Work on technically meaningful challenges with direct customer and business impact.
  • Build specialized expertise in a globally recognized coatings portfolio.
  • Collaborate across technology, commercial, manufacturing, quality and stewardship teams.
  • Combine hands-on laboratory work with customer interaction, training and problem-solving.
  • Contribute your perspective in an environment where different experiences and ways of thinking strengthen the team.
